Yannii, Please go to www.download.com and search for dfrag tools. Use one of these free tools and see better results on defragmentation. As regards the slow speed of your computer, this is most likely due to the over blown Windows Registry. Read the link below carefully and follow it. Even I was suffering from the same problem last year. My laptop used to take 25 to 30 minutes to boot. And was sluggish even after that. I use Ccleaner and it has been galloping eversince.

My computer is extreamly slow. I click on a desktop icon and then wait and wait for it to respond. My computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows XP

Do a Disk Cleanup and a Defrag of the hard drive to get all the TMP files and Cookies out of the system. You find these under the Accessories tab in XP and then go to System Tools. Then you need to clean the Registry with a registry cleaner. Here is a good free one I use all the time.http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner. Today with all the surfing on the Web you get massive amounts of clutter and weekly need to do the above steps to keep the system clean. Phil Let me know if I can help you more. pmgibs1@verizon.net

Hello Mike, Hi, may I suggest you try first to defrag your hard drive, Im sure when you power on your PC, the hard disk led keeps on blinking, your hard drive may have developed bad tracks and sectors, this slow moving process tends to go forever.

Defragmenting and checkdisk can find faults and bad sectors and tracks that slows down the performance of your PC.

Reformatting should be done if your defragmentation procedure fails to speed up your PC.

Try to run an antivirus program, which may help speed up your PC by detecting viruses, that tends to load forever, or slow down the booting process.

My son's PC *always* needs to be booted twice to get it up in Windows XP Pro. For some reason it hangs during the first boot. Once it hangs you have to push'n'hold the power button to force shutdown, and...

You can do a bit of detective work and run MSCONFIG.EXE froma command prompt and go through that - particularly the boot, services and startup entries. The startup entries in particular - as from there you can select what is and what is started at startup - and a process of elimination can maybe help you track down the problem. 'Registry cleaners' may help - but often are more problematic themselves thn they are 'fixers'. You could edit the registry by hand, using regedit, but that is NOT recommended unless you really know what you are doing. Do note that if you change the start-up programs (i.e. change their enable state), you will get a warning at start-up that you are running a custom start-up using msconfig.
As a last resort, a fresh installation of Windows will fix things. Running a virus checker might also be a good idea.

Window stops in middle of session have to shut down and restart computer????

hi im wesley. you might have a virus of some sorts or try defragmenting your pc it will also speed it up as this sometimes happens when you have alot of things on your pc and when you delete stuff and put files on all the time it slows down alot and can hang because the files are mixed up on the hard drive. to defragment go to start-all programs-accesories-system tools-defragment then say analyze then defragment.
