I had that problem. I had bought an extended warranty. I took it back to the store and they replaced the cord. That fixed my problem. No charge. Try another cord from someone and see if it works.

Sounds like a loose connection where the laptop opens and closes hinge there are wires that run from the main screen to the main board. If you know how to take the unit apart it maybe a cheap fix if not then a new laptop maybe the way to go the prices have really dropped from 4 years ago

It wont charge im holding it right nw hoping it wont shut down help fast

If your laptop won't hold a charge and you need to hod the connection in order for it to stay on, you may have a power jack issue. The power jack on the laptop may have been moved around from moving the laptop while connected or wiggling around the connection, and needs to be re-soldered back on the motherboard.

Also, just before taking that step, try using a different or brand new charger. Sometimes the pin inside a charger might be bent or broken, therefore not making a proper connection with the power jack.

Hope this helps.

Gateway kav60 not charging. i have to wiggle the cord and sometimes it refuses to charge.

I guess you've got a broken laptop power dc jack or power cable.

Symptoms of a broken Laptop DC power jack:

- The laptop only operates when you hold the DC power plug in a certain direction (DC jack is broken or loose).
- The laptop only runs on battery power (no power is getting through the DC jack).
- The laptop gets no power at all.
- The laptop will not charge the battery.
- The laptop switches from AC power to battery power intermittently due to a loose or broken power jack.
- The laptop suddenly shuts off.
- The DC jack may feel loose.
- Sparks come out of the back of the laptop when you insert the power plug into the DC jack.

No connection with the DC Jack on Gateway 3550GZ

It's time to take the computer to a qualified technician, for proper trouble-shooting & repair, because there are very-few "user-repairable" parts inside a laptop/notebook computer.

Battery is 100% charged but when i unplug the cable the computer goes off. Why?

The batterycould be old.
lithium batteries does not go dead when old
You simply cannot get the energy it stores.
That isthe draw back with them.
Other wise they would probably last forever.

Charging problem

My shop charges $190 to resolder a new inside connection (if possible. need to see inside)

Replacing a motherboard is the price of mobo + 2 hr labor ($95/hr) = $440

I would test and make sure there's not a short in your power cable. Use a voltmeter and hold + inside and - outside and move the cable all around and see if it drops in and out. Other than that...it needs to see a shop.
