What size memory card? The A540 works with SD cards. If your card is larger than 4GB then it's actually an SDHC card. While an SDHC card will fit into an SD slot, it will not work.

Having gone over a month without a response to my query, I assume it was a SD/SDHC mismatch as I suggested.

Why dose my camera say out of memory when I have new memory card?

Could be a faulty card or the contacts that read the card are dirty. Try the card in another machine to rule out card error.

What's your problem? My PNY 16Gb sdhc mememry card keeps saying card error in my camera

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

My camera says the memory card is locked and memory card error appears when I turn on the camera. I've read that I have to format the card, but won't the photos be destroyed? How can I get my pictures

There is a tab on the memory card so you will you need to remove it from the camera and change the position of this tab to "unlock" it. DO NOT format the card until you've BACKED UP your files from it (typically to a PC or USB drive (stick or external hard drive).

If your camera is the type that uses SD cards, then your problem is that the camera was developed in 2004 before SDHC cards were invented. Your camera cannot use them.

My canon sd600 says Memory card error?? any

I'm afraid that's exactly what it could be. A bad card which can't be formatted. Occasionally digital warnings can get it right, Occasionally.

Memory cards don't last forever and depending on it's use and treatment they can die sometimes somewhat prematurely. Just removing the card whilst it''s being accessed by the camera can ruin a card for good. Just check that the record inhibit tab isn't in place on the card. It's a little tab which when closed will stop the pictures stored on it from being accidently erased. Although usually the camera will say protect and not error.

I'd be inclined to try formatting the card in another camera if you can borrow one for a few minutes. Whatever you do, don't try formatting it in your computer. Or borrow a known good card and try it. If it works it would appear your card is dead.

When i go back to look at my pictures on my camera some come up as read error

I believe it is your memory card... I hade one do that to me... From what I gather, the card can get a bad spot on it and if taking a picture and you hit that spot it will not take that pic and just say read error... I would invest in another memory card....

Camera wont read memory card camera says memory card error and i have tried many other chips and it does not work.it also says that the memory card is locked.

What kind of memory card is it? Look on the side and make sure the small tab is not in the "lock" position. This may solve your problem.
