Question about Garmin GPS

2 Answers

When I turn on the gps it only stays on for maybe 5 seconds. When I plug the gps device in it will start up but when I get to the initial screen with the warning about not typing in info while driving and you have to hit continue or ok nothing happens. It is frozen there. Also when plugged in it will no longer turn off. The device was working perfectly. Nothing happened to it. I have always stored it safely.

I suggest you reset your GPS, to reset your gps, follow this steps, turn off Garmin device. Press down on bottom right corner of the touchscreen, and then power on the GPS unit. You should be prompted whether do you really want to erase all user data, or asked if do you really want to start up in maintenance mode. Press “Yes” to reset (warning: all data will be erased and lost, so backup before proceeding) or enter maintenance mode.
Once the Garmin GPS unit is reset, remember to place the device outside where there is a clear unobstructed view of the sky for 15 – 30 minutes in order for it to requires fix to GPS satellites. with this, this should fix the problem.

Take care.

Can not see the maps, stuck at home screen

If you had just started the device, you may have to wait a minute or so for the software (programs) to load, initialize, etc. before you start getting the user screens. Just make sure you are plugged in, or the battery is not low. When the programs start and after the GPS (satellite) signals are located, you'll be able to see your current location, etc. (and start using the device).

You have corrupt software in the internal system. Solution: Seek a repair center like the Jungle Ghost at and they will repair it. If the unit is in warranty .. return to Magellan

Why does my GPS system have a difficult time locating satellites? It says ''acquiring satellites'' for about 5 minutes. Then it says it can't locate satellites. Should it continue trying? Why does it do...

this is what my navigon says about gettting the gps to connect.

Initializing the GPS receiver
In the upper right-hand corner of the display, the GPS symbol appears. As soon as
data from at least 3 satellites is received, the symbol changes to (GPS Ready). Note: If possible, position the device with a clear line of sight to the sky to successfully
receive messages from the GPS satellites.
Note: GPS initialization requires data from at least three satellites. If GPS data is not
available, the receiver will not initialize.
Note: It can take up to 20 minutes to initialize the integrated GPS receiver for the first
Note: Each time you turn on the device, GPS receiver initialization begins. When GPS
data is available, reception starts within one minute.
If the navigation device has been switched to standby for more than a week, the next initialization
can take up to 10 minutes.
