Question about ASUS Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Wireless adapter is disabled whenever computer is in sleep, hiberate or shutdown. In other words, every time you log on you need to troubleshoot because the wireless adapter is disabled even though in the device manager it indicates that wi-fi IS enabled. Any suggestions?

  1. Go into device manager, right click the adapter, and go to properties.
  2. If there is a power management tab, click it and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
If this does not work please let me know the model of your adapter. Thank you.

Can I leave this system on and running 24/7?

I leave my computer on 24/7 with fan cooling and have to clean out the beast every 6-8 months... if you have water cooling its alot easier all you have to do is detach the fans from the radiator and maybe even clean the radiator out by rinsing it with water.
As log as the system is properly cooled leaving it on 24/7 doesn't matter except the cost of energy. I set my Vista systems to 'shutdown monitor' then 'sleep' after a period time. Touch the mouse and the system comes up full power instantly.

Why does my router time out when the primary computer goes to sleep

More probably is your computer is setup to put your nic (network interface card) to sleep (shut off power). You can disable this by clicking on "Computer", select properties. On the right click "Device Manager" locate your network adapters, expand this and right click each adapter and select properties. Under the "Power Management" tab uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

Open Device Manager. In the Device Manager window, click the plus (+ ) sign next to Network adapters to expand the selection. Under Network adapters , click to select the appropriate wireless LAN adapter. On the menu bar, click Action and then click Properties . In the Properties window, click the Power Management tab. On the Power Management tab, click to uncheck the box next to Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power . Some WLAN adapters have another power saving setting in addition to the one on the Power Management tab. Click the Advanced tab and try to locate a power saving setting. If it exists, disabled it. Click the OK button.

Acer Aspire ZG5 Power Led showing yellow

Hibernation is the biggest creator of software nightmares...it has killed more computer systems and corrupted more systems than I can count. Go to control panel > power options and change your power settings in there. Turn hibernation off and just have the computer go to sleep after a certain time. You will find that the computer will come right back in sleep mode and will be ready for action. Don't worry about the system running until sleeping and then waking up, it's a lot better than finding your entire operating system is now corrupt and has to be re-installed.

Step 2.From the Device Manager window, Scroll down click on Network adapters, select and right click on the wireless adapter and select properties.

Step 3.From the adapter properties window select the Advanced Tab and under the “Property:” window scroll and select “Power Management.” From the Power Management tab uncheck the box that indicates, “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.” Then Click Ok

(Note: It is important to note these changes will not take effect until the wireless radio is reset by turning it off and then on again.)

How i can stop change winows XP icon after software istallion

I think I experienced the same problem you're describing. After installing the NetGear USB adapter, Windows XP stopped using the "friendly" way of logging on -- where it has a nice icon for each user -- and started using the "ugly" logon. You get a username/password dialog box.

I checked with NetGear tech support, and they sent me the following steps:

1. After installing the new driver/utility for WG111v2, click Start --
Run and type regedit.
2. When the registry editor opens browse to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software /Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/WINLOGON.
3. Delete the key named GINAdll.
4. Afterward you may want to go back into the control panel and check
the 'change the way users log on or off' and make sure the welcome
screen and fast user switching are both checked.

They also included the common sense caution that you should not edit your registry unless you know what you're doing. You can screw up your computer by improperly editing your registry. However, the steps are easy enough to follow that you should be safe if you exercise caution.

I would add that this didn't fully solve my problem. Although things work fairly well in most cases, when I wake up my machine after it has gone to sleep (due to a period of inactivity), the screen is messed up. Instead of giving me the normal logon screen, I get a messed up version of my desktop, and I am not able to log on. I have to turn off the computer's power and restart it.

To work around this problem, I try to always shut down completely when I log off instead of allowing the machine to go to sleep.
