The belt may have slipped of the shaft.

This could also be caused by the belt being too large, too loose, or worn to the extent it simply doesn't apply enough grip on brush to keep it from spinning.

Write down the vacuum model, buy the proper belt, and replace it.

Brush wont move and its not the belt

If the belt is not broken, most likely the brush roller needs replacing. If the brush roller turns freely then it is likely the pulley on the motor that drives the belt.

The brush bar isn't going round ?

your problem seems to be the belt has snapped. Underneath the the hover there is a rubber belt that connects around the brush bar and around the motor, this belt will be broken. They can purchased from any hoover shop for a couple of pounds.

No power to brushes no result when brush switch activated

If you hear the brush moter running then the belt driving the roller has probably broken. It can be easily replaced by removing the brush plate underneath and pulling the roller out. Replacement belts are available on-line or may be available in hardware stores.Fit the new belt over the steel motor spindle first, then place the belt over the roller and insert the roller.
The belt will break if the roller gets jammed, so buy 2 belts and keep one as a spare.

Motor runs vacuum has suction on attachment but brushes won't Rotate

This problem is most often caused by a broken brush roller belt. Sometimes, although very rarely, there is a separate motor which turns the brush, or there may be something that is causing brush roller to bind so that a belt does not last long. I don't know what your situation is but I'll give it my best shot. Lets just assume the most common problem (97% of the time) and that it is a broken belt,
FIRST: UNPLUG THE VACUUM CLEANER. Write down the model number of the machine so that you make have it with you when you purchase a new belt.
Set up an area to work and lay down newspapers to do this job as it can be messy. Or, of course, if you do it on the carpet, you can vacuum it up when your finished
Normally to remove the brush roller and install a new belt most vacuums will have some way to gain access. Either there are:
a) Screws on the top of the roller sections that if you remove them you can tip the cover up so that you can remove it. Sometimes there are cosmetic caps over where the screws are. or
b) Screws on the bottom of the roller section so that you can remove them, then a cover, and then the brush roller itself.

When you have the roller exposed, remove it carefully and take note to observe the parts and how they are oriented. This will help with the reassembly process. Often the brush roller is a simple one piece unit, but it pays to keep track of your work.
1 Remove the broken belt.
2 Remove the brush roller.
3 If there are any carpet strands wrapped around the roller, remove or unwind them. If there is material that is causing the roller to bind which is caught in the ends of the roller, of course, remove them as well.
4 Reinstall the roller with the belt loosely wrapped around it so that the other end of it can be put around the motor shaft that turns it. This step may be harder than it looks and you may need a lot of strength to wrap the belt around that shaft. It depends on the design of the unit. Sometimes it is alternately easier to put the belt around the shaft first and then put the roller into position.
5 Once the roller and belt are in their final positions, Re-assemble.
6 Before plugging the vacuum cleaner in, Check to see that the Roller will turn without binding.
You will need to use some force because you are turning the roller itself and the motor via the belt. So it does not need to turn easily but it should not be stuck. If it is stuck, for any reason, when you turn the vacuum cleaner on you will burn up the new belt with plenty of smoke
to make things exciting and stink up the house.
7 If the belt is not binding then plug the cleaner in and test it.
All should be well,
Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
Mark

The main roller will not work

Check for a broken belt that drives the roller. Remove the roller brush and clean as best you can. Add some WD40 at both ends of the roller brush between the brush and the pieces that hold the brush in place. Turn by hand to be sure the brush moves freely. Reassemble making sure the belt is on properly.

The roller brush will not turn. The belt is not

Hello,

Sometimes the belt can stretch cause the roller to not turn. Also make sure the roller brush is free of any debris.

Use this link to access your vacuum to change belt or clean the roller brush.

Anyone know why my Bissell Proheat 2X Turbo Model 9300's brushes won't turn anymore

If the Brushes don't rotate, & you have two brushes; 1). Turn unit on side. ( Make sure unit is up-pluged) 2). Rotate the front brush roller, if the second roller moves at same time, 3). Locate a small ribbed belt that goes from the further back roller, to a small ribbed pully. (Gates belt #177-3m5) ( on side under a clear cover) The belt may not be broken, but may have carpet fuzz / lint covering the belt ribs, causing the belt to slip. If that belt is OK and you find that the small pully doesn't turn the belt/rollers, the problem is with a small internal direct drive motor, that drives the brush rollers. At this point return the unit, as Bissell has a design defect & is using cheap parts.

Brush roller does not rotate around

If the rotating brush doesn't turn, then it's almost a certianty that the belt (which connects the rotating brush to the motor pulley of the vacuum) is either horribly stretched or just plain broken. Either way, it needs to be replaced. The correct Hoover belt part # for your vacuum is 38528040 (changed from the original part number of 38528027). This is a very common Hoover belt, but would recommend your best source as being a local, independently-owned vacuum dealer dealer (as opposed to a deprtment / big box store, both of which carry very limited belts).

My purple and red Dyson has become hard to push. Could a belt have broken?

It's simple to tell if a belt has broken. Just switch the machine on and have a look (look, don't feel) to see if the brush roller is rotating. If it is, then the belt is not broken.
Depending on how much use your machine has had, it's quite likely that the brushes on the brush roller are worn to the point where you need a new brush roller.  Most vacuum cleaners rely on rotation of the brush roller to pull them along, so if the bristles are too short this doesn't happen.
I hope this helps. Please remember to rate this response.

Belt Stretched on my Hoover Windtunnel Farrington upright model U6431-900

hi, In order to to replace the V belt the one that turns the brush, One must take off the bigger belt " drive belt" that goes over that hugh wheel towards the back. When a belt gets stretched they will not turn the brush very well. If you have bought replacement belts the bigger belt Drive comes 2 in a package. Then you have your little V belt that helps turn your roller brush over. Yes the belts don't last long on my hoover. For kpatr22101 When you rpelace that V belt it goes over the roller brush into a little groove on the brush and then over a plastic round wheel then you must put on that bigger drive belt that must fit over that hugh wheel towards back and smaller on in front. Yes it is hard to get on. the I hope this helps. Cindy G.
