So I left my laptop out, just bought it a few months ago. Dog peed on it. Turned it off immediately, set it over the heater to dry overnight. Boots up perfectly now and the mouse pad works great, but none of the keys work! Trying to replace keyboard or clean inside keys? Removed all screws from back and can't seem to remove the top of the keyboard portion, it doesn't budge. Is there a bezel I am missing or some tab type closure? Looked for one but can't find it. Have computer repair experience just not with this laptop.
Hi, Compaq Presario 700 PC Notebook's main problem is audio driver for win xp. For Audio driver software you can visit a link by just Click Here . For any other problems with this Notebook you can Click Here .
My compaq presario 700 is apparently made a little differently.
there are no tabs...to get the key board out, all you have to do is:
Use a paper clip(that way it doesn't scratch everything as badly..
slip the paperclip in the corner above your del key...this is the thin panel that has your power light, volume keys etc. work your paperclip sliding it to the left, as you still pull up on it, and that panel will pop right off, once that's off, you can then just slide the keyboard upwards...and it will come right out.

You have to remove the keyboard. Most laptops have the keyboard screws at the bottom or underside of the pc and right next to the screw hole is a little keyboard picture thing or illustration that tells you that screw is to hold down the keyboard. once the keyboard is removed, you can easily get the LCD screen wires disconnected.
Shutdown your pc. Turn it on, then hold the F8 key. If nothing happens and goes into windows, your keyboard is damaged. You can contact Compaq support to have it fixed if your under warranty. If your out of warranty, you may want to dismantle the keyboard and check its connection leading to the motherboard. You may want to remove it and reseat it again.
Hope this helps.
If not, then the keyboard cable has probably come loose.
Look for some way to remove the keyboard. Sometimes a screw from
underneath, sometimes two or three small catches at front of keyboard
(small gaps in metal plate in front of space bar). Sometimes top
plastic bar above keyboard slides sideways.
Keyboard cable uses goes into a header socket - to refit:
Switch off and remove battery and power first!
1. Prise up each end of the socket with a blunt knife - the outer part of the socket should move up a few mm
2. Push keyboard cable down fully
3. Push down each end of the header socket so it is flush with the lower part of the socket.
4. Test keyboard
Generally most OEM (Original equipment manufactures') will not replace an individual key. This practice is common because this can be classified as "cosmetic damages". However, since the unit was purchased at Best Buy (I checked the serial number) the Geek Squad counter at your local Best Buy will replace the keyboard for you free of charge under your warranty.
There might be several reasons, hardware nor software/operating system, but most probably from the hardware. Can be the graphic card (if you can notice the hard disk work well - from the sound), can be the hard disk, or even the mother board. We have to go through the symptom.
Since it is still new, the best solution is back to the seller for guarantee.
Check that your notebook power settings are correct, it may be that when you press off or shutdown it's actually going into hibernation or standby, this is only correct when you close the lid without shutting down through Windows.
As for Windows Media Player, you cannot remove it as it's a Windows component, you can only dissable it through Add/Remove programmes>Add/Remove Windows Components.
