Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

1 Answer

I just moved into a new apartment and I am currently attempting to use the same linksys router that I used at my old place (without difficulity). My lap top in the bottom right corner displays "excellent" connectivity, but once I click on internet explorer or firefox to browse the internet it says "unable to upload page".. If I unplug the power from the back left portion of the router for 10 secs, plug it back in and then try the explorer page, the page will connect & work for about 5-10 mins. Once I close out that page and attempt to open another it once again says "unable to upload page" even with the bottom right still displaying "excellent connectivity". how can I stop this from occurring?

> excellent connectivity

This refers to the wireless connection between your computer & your router, not to the connection from your cable-modem (or DSL-modem) out through your ISP to the Internet.

If you use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer directly to the cable/DSL modem, do you still have "intermittent" problems?
If so, then your router (or other wireless devices, such as your neighbours' router, or your neighbours' wireless telephones that are trying to operate on the same broadcast frequency) is the problem.

You need to use the Wireless Setup either using Linksys or Windows. You accomplished setting up the system with the hardwire when you installed, now you need a second method setting for the computer to attach. In XP, go to Start/My Network Places/ Set Up A Wireless Connection ....

I no longer use the Linksys setup for the network setup because I have ran into many problems.

Also, you can contact the Customer service hotline that is in the Manual an in the setup window and they are very helpful and free of charge. They are in India, but I have used them 3 times and they speak fluent English and are better at the language than most Americans, just do not crack jokes or use slang because they will not understand some of it. The Customer Service Line with Linksys is awesome and I would rather you use them rather than take my word for it.

I'm replacing a Linksys BEFW11S4 router with a newer Linksys model WRT160N. What do I need to do to uninstall the old one, if anything. Do I need to delete all my current connections? Thanks, Mike

It should not require any changes - since you're going from Linksys to Linksys, the IP address of the router is the same (I believe). So shut down your computer (one with a wired connection to the router!), unplug the old router, unplug your modem, plug in the modem and wait until the lights settle down, plug in the new router and wait until the lights settle down, boot up your computer and wait until it's fully booted. Open a command prompt (Start Menu/Run/cmd) and type ipconfig /all - see if you have an IP address assigned in the range of 192.168.1.x . If so, open up a browser and see if you can access 192.168.1.1; it should demand a login, use your new router's default login (in the manual) and make the changes you want (including a new password!) - change the name of your wireless network, set up security, etc. As long as you make your SSID and security identical to what you had on the old router, it shouldn't require any configuration changes on the computers (though it may require a reboot to make them see the router properly after the changeover).

Linksys WRT150N

Hi there,

I only have 3 suggestions.

1st one is to make sure the ssid is not similar to other routers you are using on your profile. ie.(change it to a unique name)

2nd is to make sure you check the box that says broadcast your ssid.

3rd check to make sure you select the router as an access point and not adhoc or infrastructure option. Finally you can try to change the channels eg. i like channel 3 b/c it doesnt interfere with any phone lines.

good luck

smeags.

Please provide the manufacturer and model of your computer so I can learn about your wireless adapter and we can work to get it connected to the router.

Do you currently have your router connected to your internet service providers connection and do you have another wired or wireless computer successfully using this device to access the internet?
