On the outside unit (not the air handler) there is a block of ice formed around the cable wiring that comes from the back of the unit. Is this normal?

Hello bobhomedecor,

Every air conditioner is equipped with at least two motors, the compressor and the fan motor.

1. It is possible for the fan motor to be defective and the compressor to be running. If this is the case the unit will appear to be running and may even sound "normal" but no air is blowing out the front or back of the unit.

2. If, after removing the cover of the unit you discover the fan blade is very stiff and difficult to rotate, the fan motor should be replaced.

3. If the fan blade turns freely the circuit powering the fan motor will require electrical troubleshooting. It will be necessary to have a qualified technician locate the cause of the problem, which may be either a problem with the capacitor, the selector switch or the motor itself.

In any case, this looks like a job for a qualified technician, so my honest opinion is that you should get the machine serviced.

Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. - If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.
If it hasn’t, please do not assign a rating just yet. Please post back as to what steps you took, results, etc, and I will try to assist you further as best I can. I am here at your service.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Unplug it for a while, if the problem persists the motor might be bad.

most likely repairs required. You didn't give any info about your device so I cant direct you anywhere at this point.

Ruud 90 plus will not blow hot air

My Ruud is a different model, so this may not work. Remove the cover to the burners. Look on the left side for a small rubber hose going to a metal cylinder. Remove the hose and blow through it to remove any moisture. Replace the hose and see if the burners start up.

Rheem water heater flashes seven times ,it is in lock out mode

You have Honeywell electronic gas control valve, and error code is 7 flashes.
Probably you have power vent model.
One manual from different company says: "Reset gas control using on-off button on front of control, replace flammable vapor sensor, replace gas control thermostat.
But with Rheem you also need specific steps: Remove gas burner and look for broken glass vial, and then blow out arrestor screen air intake using compressed air, clean burner parts, check for unobstructed venting, you will need new glass vial from Rheem depending on year and model number of water heater that appears on label on side of unit, or they may not have a repair kit for that model, and you might need a new gas control valve depending on model and how extensive problem was
You have Rheem water heater.http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-repair-Rheem-FVIR.html

Have to keep lighting water heater

Clean air intake. Change thermocouple.
American Standard appears to be Bradford White or Rheem product from the one image that appears on the AS site.
Air intake located on side of unit funnels air to arrestor screen located under the combustion burner.
Remove burner and blow out screen with compressed air.
If this is Rheem product, then also inspect for broken glass vial that indicates high-temperature FV event, which might also require other parts to be replaced.

I have a Rheem Heat and air unit. Model # RGAC-080AW Serial # CM3D104 F4782 4794 and need to find out where the filter for the unit is located.

What filter are you talking about?
Air filter: Usually with a heat and air unit, the air filter is located behind the return air grill.
Return air grill looks similar to ordinary ceiling or floor grill where the hot or cold air blows into each room. Except the return air grill is larger and is usually put close to the heat-air unit.
Remove the grill and replace filter every 3-6 months.
If no filter is present, then dust and hair get stuck on the coils and unit will not meet temperature setting.
See image of typical air filter:

Not heating. The fan blows, but no warm air. RHEEM RCGA-60A1AS24

Please check if the compressor is running, if not, then
there is no warm air generated. Please contact the RHEEM dealer about it. Aircon compressors are run
with a thermostat. So, you may try setting the aircon
thermostat to maximum, so that the compressor run,
and you can have your warm air. May this info help you.
