Hi,
Yes, WD-40 may be a temp. fix....however what usually happens is that the bearings og bad and then they start a terrible rattle or the fan starts to hit something becuase it does not stay in place right...

Ice build-up around the fan making a noise.

Drain line froze.
Used hair dryer to thaw frozen line, works OK now. 01/07/09
Think the frozen drain line was caused by the light in the refrigerator not shutting off when the door closes, causing excess cooling in the freezer. Poor design on the light shutoff switch, corrected design to make permanent repair

Cooling and/or convection fan

I had the same problem. The screen protecting the fan bends into the fan from the heat. Take off the top front control panel (3 screws), reach in to the back where the fan is and push the screen back away from the fan. As always, turn the power off first to avoid shock. This should solve your noise problem.
