Question about Yamaha YST-MS28 Computer Speakers

1 Answer

I have a set of Yamaha YST-MS28 speakers and during a house move, the socket in the sub-woofer that has about 9 pins on it got destroyed. It's kind of like a DIN plug, but a little more complicated. I removed it and wanted to buy a replacement I could solder in. I couldn't find anything on the web using my crude description. Does anyone know what this plug is called and any site that might sell one. Thanks.

Thanks for the response. My problem is the socket soldered to a circuit board inside the sub woofer. It is a male socket with about 8 or 9 pins. They are not round pins, they are rectangular. They are arranged like the branches of a fir tree ////. \\\\, but in a circle. I don't need a cable. The cable end is black plastic and is the female connection. It has a steel band with a couple of indents for positioning it on the male socket. I removed the socket ith a soldering iron and need to replace it.

    Hi

The part you are refering can be bought from authorized Yamaha dealetr or from a Yamaha parts dealer. Try these links for the cord--

However, if the connector is not available then I'll suggest you to take two 4-wire cable and solder them directly to board. make sure you note the color of the wires so that it can be attached to the connector on the other side. Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

I obtained a pair of Yamaha YST MS50 speakers with no subwoofer. Can they be adapted to use a different sub, such as the inexpensive Yamaha YST MSW5? The clear problem is in different cabling.

How it can be connected to a stereo amp

hi,
if ur amplifier have a pre out, then u can connect that to ur L/R input of ur sub woofer.

if not the only way is, connect ur amplifiers speaker output to sub woofers speaker input and then connect ur speaker to sub woofer speaker output terminal. remember don't inter change positive and negative wires.

if ur amplifier have speaker A,B connection then it is very easy. connect the speaker A to ur left and right speaker. then connect speaker B to ur sub woofer's left and right speaker input. be sure to make that speaker A and B switch is in on position. the power on both and check it. ( use good quality speaker cable to connect the sub woofer)

your sub woofer is designed to work , both at low level and high level input.
ok

Will the woofer work without the other two speakers?

There is no point.
The woofer(sub woofer) just delivers the bass. You usually put the sub woofer out of the way under your desk.
Without the other speakers you would just get the thumping bass and no treble
