This might be a sign of a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

Test with an external monitor attached to the laptop. If you get display on the external monitor, then this confirms the case

Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 white screen on stat up

Don't assume. Diagnose.

Problem could be graphics chipset, Video Cable, screen Inverter, or LCD screen.

Graphics chipset:

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect a VGA monitor to the VGA port, on the laptop.
(Back of laptop - Blue)

Example of a VGA Cable, and a VGA connector, (Port on laptop),

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

If you have a CRT type of monitor (Looks like a small TV), you can use it, or a flat LCD screen monitor with a VGA cable.

The Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 Notebook PC, also has a DVI connector on the back of the laptop. (Next to the blue VGA port)
You can connect a flat LCD screen monitor with a DVI cable.

Example of a DVI Cable, and DVI connector,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.
By factory default the display should be on the external monitor.

If not;
Press, and hold down on the Fn key, (Bottom left), and tap once on the F5 key.
The F5 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

You will see a list. It 'hot cycles' through the list, until you come to the external monitor device you are using.

External monitor display shows no white screen?
Your graphics chipset is good.
Go on with the diagnoses.

Problem is with the Video Cable, or in the Display Assembly.
(Screen Inverter or LCD screen)

Video Cable:
The Video Cable attaches to the motherboard under the Switch Cover, and about at the F2 and F3 keys.
It then routes under the left Hinge, and up into the Display Assembly.

From there it connects to the screen Inverter, and back of LCD screen,

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-p105/big/toshiba-satellite-p105-11.jpg

From;

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/toshiba-satellite-p105/take-apart-1.htm

http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-P105-P100/remove-lcd-screen-inverter-1.htm

Due to normal opening, and closing of the laptop, the Video Cable may become pinched, and pulled on.
This can lead to a simple loose connection of the Video Cable TO the motherboard, or TO the back of the LCD screen.

(The screen Inverter connection should also be checked)

Visual inspection will NOT do. You need to physically see if you can plug the motherboard connection, and LCD screen connection in.
It could be just loose enough you won't be able to see it, but will affect the display.

Sheath of Video Cable needs to be visually inspected for signs of damage. Signs of damage to the sheath, may also mean damage to the tiny wires inside the sheath of the Video Cable.
(Stretched/Broken)

Assurance that the Video Cable is not the problem, means checking out, or have checked out, with a multimeter set to OHM's, to run a continuity check of all the wires.
('Mom and Pop' computer store. See if they will check it)

Or simply replace the Video Cable. (After you fire up the laptop, and see if loose connections was, or was not the problem)

http://www.batterysupport.com/toshiba-satellite-p105-s9722-cable-p-377633.html

(Left side connects to LCD screen. Right/Top connector goes to motherboard. Right/Bottom connector goes to screen Inverter)

Video Cable checks out OK?
Go on to screen Inverter.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOSHIBA-Satellite-P105-S9722-laptop-lcd-Screen-Inverter-/250759700669

The plastic thin frame in front of the LCD screen, is the Display Bezel.
The screen Inverter is behind the Display Bezel, and mounted at a location towards the bottom of the LCD screen frame.

A screen Inverter is tested with a sensitive multimeter. Read fairly expensive,

http://www.fonerbooks.com/test.htm

It is for this reason that those who do not have access to a sensitive multimeter, usually just replace the screen Inverter.
(Also low cost, and ease of access to replace)

Screen Inverter checks out OK?
Problem is the LCD screen,

[ Bet it's the video cable, or screen Inverter, that is the problem ]

[ Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or two of them), or a series of LED's.
(Light Emitting Diode)

The Toshiba Satellite P105-S9722 Notebook PC, uses One CCFL for a Backlight.

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch.
Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height,

General example,

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/

A CCFL contains -> Mercury, just like Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses.

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the Backlight, and LCD screen.
90 Percent of the Time the fault is a bad screen Inverter.

Primer over.

Are the display bands compatible?

1) Toshiba Satellite P300-13j LCD screen example,

http://www.screentekinc.com/Toshiba_Satellite_P300D-13J--17-inch--1440x900-wxgaplus-laptop-lcd-screen.shtml

Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Active Matrix LCD screen, that is WXGA, and uses one CCFL for a Backlight.

2) http://www.lcds4less.com/ToshibaLaptop__Toshiba_Satellite_P300D-12L__laptop-screens.html

Thin Film Transistor (TFT) Active Matrix LCD screen, that is WXGA, and has 1 CCFL for a Backlight.

There is a pretty good chance. The screen Inverter and LCD screen are a matched unit. I would remove the screen Inverter from the P300-12L, and use it also.

Looks like this,

http://www.lcd-inverter-shop.com/Toshiba/Toshiba-Satellite-P300D.html

If I may ask;
1) Is there obvious damage to the LCD screen?

2) If there is not obvious damage to the LCD screen, have you used an external VGA monitor with the laptop?

To see if the problem is the graphics chipset, or the video cable, or inside the Display Assembly.

[Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself,
(Click on the monitor icon,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NA_Optical/Systems/BehindTheScenes/Optics101/ )

It needs an additional light source. A Backlight is the additional light source.
A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or two of them), or a series of LED's.

LED stands for Light Emitting Diode

CCFL stands for Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.

Observe the last 8 photos especially. This article shows you that the LCD screen is an assembly. It is composed of layers. Just like the 3M company's tutorial. Also shows general instructions for replacing a Backlight.

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Backlight.
It is a small circuit board, and is usually mounted towards the bottom of the LCD screen, and behind the Display Bezel.

A CCFL, (Or two of them), uses a screen Inverter.
LED backlighting however, may or may not use a screen Inverter.

Using LED's for backlighting is relatively new, when discussing backlighting technology.
Some of the first designs of LED backlighting does use a screen Inverter.
Newer designs do not seem to.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the problem can be attributed to a bad screen Inverter.

The satellite pro p300 will not start, power, charge lights come on, no beeps. The CD drive initalises. I can put a cide in and the light comes on. There is nothing on the laptop screen or the external...

Check the time if you can, doubt it since it can not display anything.
This usually happen when:
1. The memory card is bad, needs to be replace.
2. The video card is bad. Since it's a laptop, then the problem is with in the motherboard.
Sometimes when the BIOS battery is drained, it also stop the computer from displaying. To see the battery you must take apart the computer.
And the last thing in the list is the monitor it self. Maybe the monitor got damage some how and it won't display anything.
To troubleshoot, I recommend you start with the memory, and since the computer must be 64 bits, it needs 2 memory card of at least 2gb. each stick, if one of them is damage and both are still connected to the motherboard, the monitor won't display anything either.

A135 s2386 my laptop, the lcd image is low resolution, the external monitor is ok

Go into the Display Settings under the Control Panel and change the resolution. Some screens won't take the high resolution that's why when you replace a screen you need to make sure you're replacing it with one like you had.

Click Start/Control Panel/ Display and go to the Settings or Resolution area to change it. On some systems the Display will be under Appearance and Personalization.

your screen is crapping out. most likely the wires connecting the screen to the video chip... but long story short, you will either have to repair the screen for a ton of money or simply buy a new computer.

I accidently removed something from my toshiba satelite A55-S1066. now my screen won't come on. Although I hear it. What do I do?

If you can't see anything as it is booting up then the black light on the display is out, as in broken. Get close to it and look on the edges and see if you see any light. If you see something but no picture your back light is out.

There's a function key, look for a pix of a moniter on one of the f keys. That switches it off and on. Try using an external monitor and see if you have a display. It may be stuck on external monitor if you were using one. Using another monitor will allow you to see and change it to the laptop display.

It could also be that the video chip went out on the motherboard...

Toshiba P10 laptop screen no longer works.

It's not the inverter but the biotin backlight bulb that lights the display from underneath. The screen needs to be replaced unless you want to try and rebuild it and replace the backlight bulb. New screens from EBay should not be more than 70-100 bucks. If you want to try and replace the backlight bulb, the link is below for the procedure.....
