Memorex MMP8565...Firmware Problems

I am having problems updating the firmware on my MMP8565. Windows Media Player just quit working with my player one day so I am trying to update the firmware to see if it will fix the problem. I downloaded the "Deco" firmware onto my computer like the book told me to, but now when I click into "Firmware Download" a little flashlight appears and it says it is searching for devices connected to the system. I have tried to unplug it and plug it back in, I have tried uninstalling the device in the control panel, but nothing is working. I really need to update the firmware and get this thing working again.....I miss music at the gym and am in great need of any help please!!!

I had same problem - like boot error or smth. Updated the firmware from official (!) website, as it was recommended - after that my player died :(. So the official firmware, so called "Deco" didn't help - it harmed my player, don't know why?
E-mailed my problem to the customer service - don't know if they will help.

I also installed the firmware which I downloaded from Memorex's website. I installed it following the directions provided from Memorex (They called the program Memorex Solid State Digital Audio Player), it instead installed a program called Deco. I ran the program, now the MP3 player won't even turn on. I am at the point where I never intend to purchase another Memorex product again. I purchased this product for my daughter for christmas and she was only able to use it for about 2 months. It's junk.

I just encountered the same issue. I was constantly getting an error when trying to sync to WMP and I'd have to format just to get additional songs onto my player. So I tried to install the firmware to see if it would help -- no dice. My mp3 player will not turn on. Nothing.

Has anyone e-mailed customer service? And if so, did it help?

I try to put new songs on and an error message comes up saying that there is nothing on the device, or the device is undetected.

Same thing here. WTF memorex. I didn't buy mine (found it) so there are a lot of files I have to get rid of. (i.e. NSYNC, Prince, Boys 2 Men)

Hi, my memorex is not switching on now.before it was showing boot error, shutting down, so i formatted it and added new songs and now its stable ie... it switches off in a second after i switch it on...is...

I suggest you update the firmware of the player. The update available at Memorex web site:

http://www.memorex.com/en-us/Discontinued-Products/Portable-Electronics/MP3/Digital-Audio-Player-with-1GB-Memory--Color-Display/support/

If that does not work, it may be a problem with the player itself. This product has a 90 day warranty and you can call Memorex Product Support at 1-877-363-6673 between noon and 9pm EST if the unit is under warranty.

My memorex MMP8565 MP3 player will not boot. I have tried reset and charging but it will not come on.

HI. This unit has internal memory(1gb) that can become unstable, thus, causing start up issues. With that said; This will most likely be a dead cell(battery). I would replace the battery with a new one if it is over 1 years old. This lithium cell may be defective. Once you have purchased a new battery, be sure to charge it fully before using the player. It takes three whole hours to set a newly purchased lithium cell. Once that is done, power up the player and update your firmware. Use the steps below to update properly:

1. Download the updated firmware at www.memorexelectronics.com.

2. Unzip the file, then double click setup.exe in the Desktop folder to install the software to your computer.

3. Connect the player to the computer using the supplied USB cable and the installation screen will appear. (If the installation screen does not appear, unplug the USB cable and turn off the unit). Connect to the computer again and press and hold the Power On/Off/Stop button until the installation screen appears.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

5. When finished, click START and locate the newly installed software “Deco” andselect “Firmware Download”.

Now, after the update, you will need to reformat the player. Use the steps below to achieve this:

1. Use the USB cable to connect the player and the computer.

2. Double click on My Computer, then right click "MPT Player", "MMP8565"or "Removable Disk" and left click on"Format".

3a. For "MPT Player" or "MMP8565", at the "Format" window, click OK to confirm and the player will start to format . When
finished, click "OK" to close the Format window.

3b. For "Removable Disk", at the "Format" window, select "FAT 32" from the file system pull-down menu, then click "Start" to format the unit

  • NOTE: Make sure you have selected "FAT 32" at the file system pull down menu; otherwise, after formatting, the player will not work properly. Then, click OK to confirm and the player will start to format. When finished, click "Close" to close the Format window.

  • NOTE; If for some reason you cannot update your firmware, you will need to reformat the player first, then, update the firmware after the reformatting process.

This problem can be easily fixed by running an update called firmware provided by Memorex. If you have the color display, by following the link below you will find the file to download which contains the executable application and instructions to run it.

BOOT PROBLEMS

Reformat the player - the instructions are in your user's manual, which can also be obtained off the internet at: http://www.memorexelectronics.com/html/product_detail.php?PID=650#

If that fails, get the firmware upgrade from the above-mentioned website

Flashed to an official firmware Memorex MMP8565 - and it died...

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard

By default, it looks like the device mounts as MTP when you connect via USB (media transfer protocol).
[See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol]

There is a tutorial on the Memorex Electronics website:
[See http://memorexelectronics.com/html/downloads.php]

Look for "MMP8565 Digital audio player with 1GB flash memory"
And the "Product Tutorials" for a pop-up tutorial.
(Note: The MMP8568-HIT looks pretty close to MMP8565).

However, I found that if you hold down the Play/Pause button while connected via USB, it will change to mounting as USB Mass Storage Device Class (USB MSC).
[See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_mass_storage_device_class]

This will make the media player look like another USB flash drive, and let you see it as a removable disk drive (e.g., "F:")

From there, I see:
F:\MUSIC
F:\PICTURES
F:\PLAYLIST
F:\VIDEO

And, Windows Media Player also sees the files.

Simply drag-n-drop to the directory (e.g., using Explorer) to add/remove files from the MP3 player.

I prefer this method, as I don't need to use Windows Media Player at all.

W.m.p. conflict???

go to memorexelectronics.com and then to support. You need to upload the current firmware for model MMP8565. I downloaded the firmware program and followed the instructions, it fixed all the problems I was having with the mp3 player. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully, it may get a little tricky if you are not somewhat computer literate.

Media player wont show files.

You all are not all having the same issue at all. The vast majority of you have loaded songs that are the wrong format into the player, which is why they aren't recognized once you disconnect from the PC. You should convert them to Mp3 format to avoid having this problem in the future.

Emerald - firmware upgrade from: http://www.memorexelectronics.com/html/product_detail.php?PID=650#

sam and lyrna - format player first; if fails, firmware upgrade
