Question about Frigidaire 14.1 cu. ft. Upright Freezer (FFU14K0DW)

1 Answer

Our freezer sat in the garage unused and unplugged for about a year. Now we are ready to use it so we plugged it in. Its been on about a week now and its still not getting cold inside. Actually I noticed that the bottom is cold but the top is not. To test it I put a water bottle on each shelf and only the one on the bottom shelf froze. Any thoughts?

Something easy to try is to clean the evap. usually on the bottom. warm soap and water, or compressed air usually does the trick. it's the easiest thing to try.

hi is the fan motor going in the freezer. if so how long has it been plugged in if more than 24 hrs and the fan is going. it could be that because it sat for 10 years the lines that go inside could have rusted out. so if this is the case its scrap sorry. the appliance doc.

The most likely answer is a slow freon leak assuming it was getting to the right temperature before you went on vacation.

Freezer Problem

If it started to cool again the compressor was running. Check the condenser and make sure it is clean. Provide as much air movement through the garage as possible . 100 degrees is a high temperature to be operating a refrigerator in.

GIBSON DEEP FREEZE IS RUNNING BUT EVERYTHING IS THAWING OUT

Might try unplugging for a few hours and then plug it back in. There is a possibility that it slugged the compressor and there is a restriction in the line. Sometimes when the compressor fails to stop running in cold air the liquid gets back to the compressor. It can cause a bit of gunk to be picked up out of the oil and carried to the expansion line and plug up the line. Maybe turning it off will let the plug fall free and not replug the line. Worth a try anyway.....
