I have a Toshiba 36A40 regular tube TV that I bought about 9 years ago.

When I first turn it on, it takes anywhere between 20 minutes and 45 minutes for the full screen to come on. During this time, THERE IS SOUND BUT NO FULL PICTURE, just a horizontal white line across the middle until the picture finally flickers and comes on.

    Any ideas??? THANKS

Need to replace the vertical output IC. Thats usually the problem when ever you have a line running from side to side across the screen in the middle.

How much does picture tube for 42 inch flat screen Sanyo TV cost

There is no picture tube in a modern flat screen TV.
And unless it's physically broken, it's usually something else that has failed and not the screen.
A picture tube is a CRT (cathode ray tube) that sends electrons from the back to the front to light up different color phosphorous dots.
A modern flat screen TV on the other hand is LCD (liquid crystal display) that turns on and off to allow backlighting through multi colored filters. (LED TV also uses a LCD screen, the only difference is the backlighting is LED and not fluorescent lamps.)

Stand by red light is flashing, unable to turn on tv - needs servicer???

9 times is a high voltage shutdown, usually having to do with the 200 volt line going to the picture tubes which were a constant problem in that model line.
on the crt cards there is a video output ic which has shorted causing the 9 blink error code.'
The chip has shorted because the picture tube is bad.
It can be any one of the 3 picture tubes in there and must be isolated by a process of elimination, just to get started.
the worse news is the picture tube itself is rarely available, and then only as a "rebuilt tube".
This is because these tubes failed so frequently in this model. CRT's themselves are becoming rare in general.
This is not a job for anyone other than a certified tech, but be advised...the likelyhood of saving this TV is very slim and would be cost close to the price of a new flat panel tv.
if you proceed, you will likely only get as far as paying a technician for an estimate who will simply deem the TV cost prohibitive and condemn the unit.

Tv keeps flat lining and shrinking picture

If this is a crt tube tv. Your vertical ic is loosing its connection with the board. Better to quickly resolder it or reflux it with a new lead. Before the IC fail for good.

Sony 65 inch screen tv

The lines you saw, i;m sure they are the ones called retrace lines but know the failure could be located on the red CRT board. Most likely the video amplifier is defective and not necessarily the CRT.
What is the model number of your TV?

Sylvania 27 inch stereo flat screen tv

This problem sounds like a short inside the picture tube itself unless a driver transistor failed that drives the red gun in the CRT. You may have to take it to an authorized repair facility if the picture tube is still in warranty.
