When set to spin, I can hear the motor run but no spin. Is this going to be the motor coupling or is it a chance that it is a problem with the lid switch?

did the water drain out?if the water drained out,you can hear the motor run but you have no spin or sgitate you most likely have a broken motor coupling,if it still has water in it check the lid switch, open the lid a few inches and then close it down if you don't hear a clicking sound the lid switch is broke.these are the normal thingss that happen, you could have a problem with the transmission but you have to send more info, just saying it diesn't spin can be alot of different things.

Wont agitate or spin tryied putting on drain spin setting pump will run and run but wont spin

Top loader washers the main reason is either the motor coupling has failed. You will hear a grinding or growling or whirring noise or the lid switch has failed. The lid switchy will keep it from spinning but usually it will agitate. Check and make sure the drum is not froze and won't move, if it is free, check the coupling under the tub and make sure the motor and tranny are connected. If they are then the transmission may have failed. If this is a front loader the main reasons are a bad motor.

Will not spin and drain water out.

afew things it could be... first i would check the lid switch if the lid switch has failed it will not allow it to spin or drain... if the lid switch is good check under unit by tilting back if this is a direct drive unit which i believe it is it will have a drive coupling in it between the transmission and motor. this is what turns pump assembly and tub and if broke it will not work... if you start unit do you hear anything like it is trying to run just not turning if so then most likely going to be drive coupling it is located between transmission and motor plastic piece with a black piece of rubber between the two plastic pieces there are 3 prongs on each piece of the coupling and they shear when unit has gotten in a bind, heavy load or just after age... if you are not hearing anything when u turn on washer the check lid switch repost with anymore questions

Not spinning

if it's an older top load model and the motor is running but no spin you have a broken motor coupling,if the water is still in it check the lid switch, lift the lid up and close it down a few times,if you don't hear a clicking sound the lid switch is broke, next time send the model number and a little more info

My maytag atlantis washer purchased in 2002 would not spin on the colors spin cycle. I turned the control completely around to the spin cycle and tried again and it didn't work. I also set it on the spin...

Jim, I would be looking at the lid switch assembly. Try to press down on the lid in the very front edge. IF the switch is going out of tolerance, the added pressure will activate the switch and allow the machine to spin. If it were a transmission problem, you would hear the motor. (I'm assuming you are not hearing the motor).
If you are hearing the motor run, check the motor slides to make sure they are not rusted and the motor is able to pivot back and forth freely.
Let me know if you have any other questions on this!!

Washer not spinning

Hi,

If you are neither spinning nor agitating and you can hear the motor running (humming or buzzing) the the problem is with the coupling. See the first link below to repair.

If the motor does not run, only fills, no drain, no buzz no hum then the problem is most likely with the lid switch, see the second link. There is video near the bottom of that page showing how to replace it. Let me know if this helps.

I have a frigidaire washer model fws777ghs0.after the spin cycle the water is drained but the clothes are too wet.there is a smell of burning rubber.when I open the lid I could see a slight smoke.could it...

probably burned up your motor coupling! see if you can hear the motor running either on the agitate or spin cycle,if you hear the motor running but no movement then it's gonna be the motor coupling it's plastic and rubber! cost about $20

Maytag washing machine (PAV3240AWW) does not do the spin cicle

this could be a couple different things. if it stops at the spin cycle, and makes no noise at all, you need to check the lid switch. if you open the lid, the lid switch is on the right toward the rear. there is a plunger on the lid that activates the switch when you close the lid. if the switch is bad, or the switch housing is broke, replace the switch. be sure to make sure the plunger on the lid isnt broke, and not going in far enough to activate the lid switch. if this all turns out to be ok, it could be the motor slides or jammed pump bearing. you would no if it is one of these if when it gets to the spin cycle, you hear the motor run and it doesnt spin. the motor pivits on slides to one spot to aggitate, and to another spot to spin. sometimes these slides get dry and you just grease the slides and the motor plate so the motor can pivit again. if it is the pump bearing, you will hear the motor and smell "burning rubber". if this is the case, replace the pump. let me know if you have any questions, good luck. shane

Washer no longer spins.

with the washer set for spin and turned on...raise and lower the lid.
If it spins replace the timer.
If it does not spin...replace the direct drive coupling on the motor.
