Question about Kohler Home

1 Answer

We have a 1.6 gallon single unit Kohler toilet that just started leaking at the top of the flushing mechanism (inside the tank). The toilet serial number is K3386DA - 20190. The flushing mechanism is Model 703 and it includes an apparent serial number 84679-AA. It looks like part of the unit (at the top is cracked). I went to Home Depot to see if I could purchase a replacement part, and they only carry universal flushing mechanisms. I would appreciate your help. Thanks

How can I adjust the waterflow to a lower setting to make it 1.2 gallon flush from a 1989 3.5 gallon flush??

Keep in mind that if you limit the amount of water too much, the 3.5 gallon toilet will not flush properly.

This looks like an old Kohler Rialto toilet. The proper way to adjust the water level is to tighten down on the adjustment screw located on the very top of the fill valve. The fill valve is the the piece that the float ball screws into on the left side of the tank.
Tighten the screw down and flush the toilet. Wait for it to refill, and check the level. If you need less water, tighten again, let fill and check level.
There are also two old school methods to save water in your toilet. One is to put one or two bricks into your toilet tank. This reduces the amount of water that fills the tank. The second method is if the fill valve has a float ball on a metal rod, you can bend this rod down into the water. This makes the fill valve shut sooner. Don't bend too far or too fast because the chlorine in the water weakens the brass rod that the float ball attaches to.

Kohler one piece toilet. it is leaking around the bottom of the toilet but if I put the water in the back of the tank myself, it doesn't leak

if its leaking from bottom of toilet on the floor. its the wax ring that may be bad, if it does this when flushing it is either cracked or the wax ring under toilet is bad.

Water in bowl. water level almost below where bowl saris to widen! , Kohler cimmarron - Toilet tank is full, all water flushes out of tank when flushed it's been this way since we installed it

If I understand correctly, your water level inside the bowl is 3 or 4 inches from the top of toilet seat?
Sounds peculiar to have that water level since you would get splashing etc.
That is not sanitary, and would be a code violation.
Look at side profile of tank.
Look at porcelain behind bowl and you can see outline of "s trap."
This is the internal trap that each toilet has built in.
Purpose of trap is to a) set water level inside bowl and b) just like a sink trap, seal pipe from sewer air from entering home.
Photo shows trap on sample toilet, with line showing approximate level of water inside bowl.
Since photo is at an angle, the line appears to go downward instead of level. Again the line is approximation, and photo intended to show where you can look on your toilet.
Your tank should have similar s-trap feature. From the feature on your tank, you can see what level water is intended to be inside bowl.
Some more expensive tanks, outline of s-trap is not apparent.

If the water level is so high that you experience unsanitary conditions, this is a code violation, and toilet should be replaced.

I have the Kohler model 703 one piece toilet. It runs once about every ten minutes. It sounds just like a flush but nothing happens in the bowl. Any ideas?

Something is leaking. Your description sounds like tank water is slowly leaking and then the tank refills. You really need to use Kohler brand parts, as others pieces seem to not work well.

Toilet won't shut off

Does it leak from the overflow? If so then the washer at the top of the Fluidmaster needs to be replaced. If it is not going over the overflow then you will need to replace the flapper on the flush valve.
