I see you posted this a long time ago but maybe someone else is having this problem and needs this fix. I had the same problem and came across this solution accidentally. Although not a permanent fix, if the blades are off and the parking brake in lock position, you can start normally. After starting, unplug the electrical connection under the foot pedal bar located under the chassis, on the right side middle. Then go to left side and unplug the electrical connection on that side in about the same place. Both connections are above the deck but below the chassis. I pull the cords up and loop through the hole in the chassis they come from to hold in place. You can then operate the parking brake and mower deck after doing this. These must be plugged back in upon restarting.

Check the under seat switch.
Also there is a switch on the LH brake pedal.
Also, there is a switch (apparently) on the blades engage lever.
Details of these I am unsure, but mine will not start without the brake depressed and the blade engage pulled aft(if left with no aft pressure on lever, it will not turn over)

Why does my riding mower die when put in gear or engage the blades

Check out the grass box safety switch. if not fully depressed it will apply brakes to the blades when in gear. Most mowers are designed with a safety switch to stop the blades, or forward motion if the grass box is not fitted correctly.

What causes a riding mower to die when engaging the blade

safety switch in the seat and in the brake. if one of those is open, engine will die when you engage the blades. Owners manual should have wiring diagram so you can bypass switches to test (if you have brake applied and are sitting in the seat and that is when it is dying).

Scotts L2048 lawn tractor deck wont engage

You need to check the wires from the clutch, with the ignition on pull the pto switch out there should be a 12 volt supply at the wires if not replace the pto switch, if you have 12 volts then it is the clutch itself, they are not realy repairable, so may need a replacment.

Scotts 2046h rear tire removal

many wheels get stuck on the axle so if you remove the clip that holds the wheel to the axle and it does't come off just change the tire on the mower sounds harder to do but you don't break stuff trying

Replace switches & clutch. When brake is release everything dies. Ineed a wiring diagram.

There are a few safety switches on a riding mower. One is the brake clutch, which must be engaged to start mower if not in neutral for a manual transaxle. Another is a blade engaged safety that will not allow you to start it with the blades engaged and the other is the seat safety that prevents starting if the brake is not engaged.

If the seat safety switch is messed up and you release the brake it will kill the engine. I would start there.

I hope this helps get you going.

It sounds like the seat switch is not working. This switch must be made by a person sitting in the seat for the brake to be released or for the blades to be engaged. It is possible to start the mower with the switch open.

I have a scotts riding mower model 2046h 46'' cut and do not know how to change the transmission belt. Thanks for any help.

To whom it may concern, I have a Scott's 2046H lawn tractor # GX2046S042396, I replaced the arm #GY00244 which the original piece was found broken. Now I have the unit back together, but I have no drive, forward or reverse. I checked the belts and pulleys, belt is tight and the pulley's are intact and functioning. Any ideas as to what I should check or do?
