NO SOUND

Check the basics for like the Volume settings, mute and volume buttons on your keyboard, and the file that you are trying to play. Try a different file like music, video from different resources such as cd, MP3 players, and online. If still those don't work, try uninstalling and reinstalling your Sound driver. Click in Start button then search for device manager. Under Sound, check if there is a yellow or red mark beside the icon. If that is the case, try uninstalling the driver by right clicking it and choose uninstall. Then it would prompt you to restart the computer or if not, then restart it manually (which automatically reinstalls the driver after restart). If that wont still work, try to check if there would be sound when an external speaker is plugged in. If it works then you need to replace the internal speakers. If not, then it could be the sound card that is having the problem. Before replacing it, which means you need to replace the whole motherboard if it is onboard, and just the sound card if its just an expansion, I suggest you try Systyem restore to a date when your computer was working fine. If that one wont work, back up files first, then try reformatting the operating system. If still it doesn't work, you may want to replace sound card or the motherboard.

Games crashing and icons on my desktop scattering

hi this does sound like your graphics card has a conflict with another device, your best bet would be to go to the site of your graphics card manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your card, un-install ( actually delete ) the graphics card from the system, ie...add and remove programs, look for drivers for your graphics card, then remove, also go to your device manager and delete it from the hardware so there is no trace of it ( don't worry it will still work it will just default to minimal settings on re-boot) re-boot the system, if it says found new hardware and tries to install your card click no you don't want to install it, then find where you downloaded the drivers and install them and then that should stop the blue screens, games..this also could be the sound card has a conflict with something, as i know allot of games just crash to the desktop for this reason, try doing the same for the sound card, download, remove and install, as above...any more probs just reply and i will see what else there is, if you can also post the blue screen error on here to will be helpful as you can determine what the cause is...hope this helps

If you are going to use your restore disks, the system will go back to the factroy settings, which means it will work in a way it worked when you purchased it. So as a result you should surely have your sound card working.
However any software or data which you loaded after purchasing will be lost as well.

Also before using the PC restore, you may also try the system restore.
System restore is a utility using which we can take the system back to a date when it was working fine. It will undo all the changes happened after the chosen date.

Steps for system Restore
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore.
Than choose a date in the calender when you think that it was working fine.

Any software and programs installed after the chosen date will not be there. You should not loose your data as well.

I hope that i have answered your query.
All the best
Sammy
