Question about D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router (DI624RE)

1 Answer

Dlink wireless router was installed and has a ssid identification. Unfortunately the security was not set up properly and now everyone has access to our internet. I have tried to reset the router but it just goes back to the same settings as those that are now installed. Also tried to connect to 192,168.0.1 and when entering the admmin password it will not let you move to the screen that enables you to set up the password as a security feature. I am very frustrated with this as this has been an ongoing problem for about 3 weeks. PlEASE HELP!!

You can find it in router configuration page. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on wireless settings then wireless security then note down the WEP key if there is not any wep key then enter new key it is your password to connect wifi. Then save settings and restart router then check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

What is the passphrase or security key on my dlink dir628

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

You need to set your router up for wireless access, obviously the router only allows registered wireless devices to access the router and internet. You need to set up your wireless access points like so, -

How to Set Up and Test Basic Wireless Connectivity

Follow the instructions below to set up and test basic wireless connectivity. Once you have established basic wireless connectivity, you can enable security settings appropriate to your needs.

1. Log in to the DG834G firewall at its default LAN address of http://192.168.0.1 with its default user name of admin and default password of password, or using whatever LAN address and password you have set up.

2. Click the Wireless Settings link in the main menu of the DG834G firewall.

3. Choose a suitable descriptive name for the wireless network name (SSID). In the SSID box, enter a value of up to 32 alphanumeric characters. The default SSID is Wireless. Note: The SSID of any wireless access adapters must match the SSID you configure in the DG834G Wireless ADSL Firewall Router. If they do not match, you will not get a wireless connection to the DG834G.

4. Set the Region. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate

5. Set the Channel. The default channel is 11. This field determines which operating frequency will be used. It should not be necessary to change the wireless channel unless you notice interference problems with another nearby wireless router or access point. Select a channel that is not being used by any other wireless networks within several hundred feet of your firewall.

6. For initial configuration and test, leave the Wireless Card Access List set to allow everyone access by making sure that "Turn Access Control On" is not selected in the Wireless Station Access List. In addition, leave the Encryption Strength set to "Disabled."

7. Click Apply to save your changes.

8. Configure and test your computers for wireless connectivity. Program the wireless adapter of your computers to have the same SSID and channel that you configured in the router. Check that they have a wireless link and are able to obtain an IP address by DHCP from the firewall. Once your computers have basic wireless connectivity to the firewall, you can configure the advanced wireless security functions of the firewall.

Your ipod touch should now connect to the router, BUT so will everyone else so you need to secure your wireless network.

You can find instructions on page 54, section 4-8 of the manual. If you haven't got a copy you can download one from this link, -

http://www.netgear.co.uk/product_support.php

Select DG834G from the drop-down list, allow pop ups. On the next page; which may open as a new window, select the DG834Gv2.

Any problems, email me bob.felstead@tiscali.co.uk and I'll send the PDF to you.

Regards,

Bob

Once you've done this you need to set up wireless security

8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.

Ssid network

The SSID setting is part of the DLink wireless setting.
To configure the DLInk wireless/router from new, you may need to connect the DLink wireless/router the laptop with a 10baseT cable, then open your browser and enter the URL address http:/192.168.0.1 The default login = admin, no password required. Unless you have previously altered the default settings.
You should configure the DLink wireless with a different SSID from the default one and set it up with encryption preferrably WAP.
You should also setup a password for the admin login, so to prevent someone from hacking into your wireless/router to change your settings and steal your Internet access.
You would need to setup the wireless card in the laptop to have the same wireless/router settings eg. SSID and encryption.
You can now remove the LAN cable and connect to the Internet by wireless.
All this information is in your manual.

D-link

Is the wireless enabled for your router? Try typing 192.168.0.1 and use the default password to access your router settings. Check if wireless is enabled, SSID is broadcasted, and security is off or properly configured.
