CD/DVD drive not working

Running Vista Home Premium: CD/DVD RW drive has up-to-date driver, and Device Manager reports drive is running normally, but it spins up then stops.

CD/DVD drive spins then stops without loading/playing dvd or cd content. Can I replace the drive or load new driver software? Other things I've tried haven't worked..ie. reg.edit and administrative tools.

Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services and make sure the "Shell hardware detection" is enabled and set to automatic.

Here's a FIX from Microsoft although you did not mention any errors.

Worth a try though if the first suggestion doesn't work.

Tsstcorp cddvdw ts l633p error code 19

Code 19 means there is a driver conflict such as two devices trying to use the same resources.

Try this - Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click the device - Driver's Tab - click
Update Drivers (this will likely do nothing) - then RIGHT CLICK the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
this will refresh the default driver stack.

Normally the above will fix that issue if not work your way down through these even if you have done
them before.

My CD/DVD player no longer works!!! HELP!!

If you are using windows XP, right click on "My Computer" go to "Properties" click on "Properties" it will Bring up a System Properties window. click on "Hardware" tab. in the middle you will see a tab that says "Device Manager" click on that. Look in the list to see if your Cd/DVD drive is shown. If it is and has a big yellow "?" on it or a yellow "?" with a "!" on top of the yellow "?" then the CD/DVD drive is still being recognized by the motherboard. In this case, replacing the driver will most likely do the trick. If you are running Vista, or Windows 7, access the Device Manager by right clicking on "My Computer" then go to "Properties".it will pop up a "Control Panel Home" window. The first entry is the "Device Manager" click on that to open the device manager. From there, the same thing applies to the XP instructions. If the CD/DVD is not listed in the list, try rebooting the system then repeat the process. If the CD/DVD still does not show up, there is most likely a problem with the drive or motherboard not recognizing the drive. If the latter seems to be the issue then taking it to a reputable repair facility might be your only option. If it is the yellow "?" you should be able to find the driver at HP's website http://www.hp.com/#Support once this is downloaded, double click on the file and it should start running the driver installer. Then just follow the prompts of the installer.

DVD/CD-ROM drive missing

Problem with missing dvd-drive with Acer 5101 solved.
Problem was that depending on boot, even bios couldn?t detect dvd-drive. I
opened my laptop and found out that there were one small screw that wasn?t
connected to anywhere. I opened the screw that locks dvd-drive in to 2.5? slot. In the back of the
dvd-drive is L- shaped peace of metal. One of it?s screws were already dropped
and 2 that were left were loose. I tightened those screws, but drive back and
got my laptop working fine.
