Question about HP PhotoSmart 7260 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

When printing photos there appears to be a problem with even distribution of color. On a portrait format pic there is a reduction of color density horizontally, and in landscape, vertically, which appears to be a problem with cartridge alignment. Five attempts at realignment have failed to eliminate the problem. The printer is now about six years old, but has never been used in a commercial (high volume) capacity: Could it be that it's worn out? I don't appear to be able to replace it, as almost all current models available include a scanner and fax, which I don't want. Is there any way in which the print head carriage can be repaired/ replaced

I have an HP photosmart 7260 printer which is now about 5 yrs old, never been used commercially, and seems ok for text,
On high resolution setting, and lower, pictures print with lighter colour bands towards the end of each pass. Is this a cartridge fault, or the print head carriage: there seems to be a lot of vertical play between the carriage and the rail.
If this is old age, can the carriage be replaced/repaired, or do I need a new printer?

  • john16002 Aug 21, 2010

Yes - this diagnosis confirmed what I suspected, although it now leaves me with virtually no choices. I do not want an all-in -printer-scanner-fax, but there are very limited alternatives for a stand-alone printer for photos. Thanks anyway, at least I can justify to my wife the expense of a new dedicated printer!

This happens because the printing head can no longer generate the required ink flow if the pass is too long - a sign of old age. Time for a new one. And there are a lot of good printers out there. Here's one that has exceptional printing quality with the original ink

It's the printing head itself (if it would have been the carriage the image would have been printed wobbly).

Yes, the head can be replaced, it's just that for such an old printer replacement parts will be extremely hard to find and very expensive.
    Time for a new printer.

Pictures appear 6 x 4 when developed on my Canon Selphy DS810. How can I change them to be developed 4 x 6 instead. I have pictures that have heads chopped off when developed 6 x 4. If I can change them...

What program are you using when you "develop" these pictures. I would recommend paint shop pro for all your photo/image editing needs. Once I have more information I can assist you further so please don't reject my help.

I'm not getting crisp, in-focus photos from my EV500 (they appear somewhat fuzzy). In a studio environment with 5500K softbox lighting, using a tripod and AF on a portrait subject, with ISO 125 in Manual...

You can try a few things to see if they help
  • First is to power off the camera and detach and reattach the lens just to make sure you are getting a good connection for the auto-focus
  • The second thing you want to do is shoot in RAW format to be sure you are able to retain the most information in the image.
  • Make sure the noise reduction is turned off in the camera menu
  • If you aren't using a cable shutter release you can opt to have the shutter delay after pressing the button. This will allow the camera to stop shaking from you pressing the button before it releases the shutter. You can find this option in the menu. Camera 2 > Anti-Shock > 3 sec.
  • Another consideration is the quality of the lens you are using. The G10 has great glass while a kit lens from Olympus may not give the fidelity throughout like the G10 does. You can try another lens if you have one available to see if this is the case. The G10 is a single purpose camera that has a great lens on it. The E-500 may need a better quality lens on it in order to achieve the sharpness you desire. Olympus makes a great 50mm macro that has an f2.0 brightness.
  • You can also set the camera to manual focus and then choose to do focus bracketing. This is a little more involved and you can find out how to do so in the manual for the camera.

My Canon MP210 never prints photos correctly! The colors come out like the right color but very incorrectly. Basically, the photos all have very severe color management problems. APparently the printer has...

Have you heard of Wysywig? What you see is what you get?

Well on color pictures on you monitor you get wysinwyg what you see is not what you get. Monitors are backlit, so colors are much more vibrant than what a printer can generally deliver. Explore the printing properties of your priinter as there are adjustments that can be made to enable better quality and true to color prints. The paper you use to print out your pics is also important in producing color that is close to original.

When you view your pics on screen try adjusting the color hue to the point it becomes overcolored and try a few experimental prints to see what level of the slide is needed to be used to achieve a brighter more vibrant picture. I would also like to say that the Canon 210 , whilst it is a very good printer, is at the cheaper end of the photo printer scale.

Talk to your ink and paper supplier, they can often show you or recommmend printers that are much higher and more accurate in delivering brighter and true to color photos.

Colors don't match, or even come close to the screen. There are many options in the print menu, which is best? I print from Photoshop, CS3, on premium glossy stock

You will rarely get what you see on the screen without lots of experiment. The reason being that your screen is Backlit, so what you see is not what you are going to get. Often that pic that has a nice glow appears quite ordinary and even darker when printed. Print thumbnail first and then alter parameters and print thumbnails again till you get as close to the onscreen pic as you can.

also use some of the customizable features in PRINT properties when you send it to the printer

I want to print on photo paper I have no idea how to start, printer is a photosmart 7450

OK, Assuming you have Photo paper loaded in your printer and your photos from your camera downloaded to a photo software program. eg Adobe Photoshop/ Serif Photoplus etc.
Bring up the photo/photos you wish to print on your photo software. eg click on the open yellow folder top left and open the fotos you want.Click 'Browse' if you don't see the ones you want. ( Open as many as you want to print.)
In order to make your prints economical you can print two or three fotos on one sheet. Click 'File', 'Print multiple' and you will see format sheets in the right pane. If you only want to print two pics on one sheet click in the right pane on the two 7 x 5 sheet or, to print three pics of the same or different pics click the sheet with three frames on it. You will now see your pictures in the right hand frame and the format sheet in the right hand frame.
Left click and hold on the pic you want and drag it into one of the boxes in the right hand frame - let go.
That pic will now appear in the box selected. you can now size it to the box it is in. If it is the right way up eg portrait in top left of a three frame page click on fit to frame to maximise picture. Click and drag another pic from the left side frame to another box in the right frame. If you have chosen the three option sheet click and drag your next foto into the bottom box on the sheet. This is a Landscape box but don't worry.
After dragging your pic into it look for an icon in the function bar along the top where, when you hover your cursor over it, says - 'rotate and fit'.(It's a square with funny corner bits!) Your pic will the be realigned to fit the the box. Having all the pics you want on the sheet click the print icon. (Picture of a printer on the tool bar.) when the print box appears click on 'Properties' and open the 'Paper/quality' tab. click the drop down box for paper and select HP Photo paper - gloss or whatever you are using. The quality will automatically set to 'Best'. Click OK and OK and the files will be transferred to your printer and it will shortly start printing your pictures.
Bset of luck.
Any problems at all, just get back to me.
Cheers.
Ian

No problem just a question I want to know how to download the pictures off my camera to a cd

there should have been a CD program with the camera to allow download to C drive.
If not then eithuer get one or use a multi format card reader to get them on PC.
manipulate the pics until all the portraits are rotated to correct position. adjust the colors or hues as needed.
Acquire a burner program ( NERO) and rag your photos to Nero CD /DVD maker and burn.

Oh, it's the colors you are having a problem with. Then you probably want to perform an Auto Gradation Adjustment. It's on pages 162-163 of the manual found here: http://download.support.xerox.com/pub/docs/DocuColor_3535/userdocs/any-os/en/3535_User_Guide.pdf

Here is what it says:

Auto Gradation Adjustment
Auto Gradation Adjustment is a color calibration for the copier and printer. An Auto Gradation Adjustment compensates for differences between the actual and the expected toner densities for each color. An Auto Gradation Adjustment should be performed whenever there is a noticeable change in the appearance (quality) of the output, particularly changes in color
tones or densities. Performing an Auto Gradation Adjustment on a regular basis will help to maintain consistent color quality over time.

NOTE: Since an Auto Gradation Adjustment can affect all jobs for all users, it is recommended that this procedure be performed only by the Machine Administrator.

Copy Job - Text Compensates tones when a text original is copied.
Copy Job - Photo Compensates tones when a photo original is copied.
Print Job Compensates tones when printing with controller line screen.
Network Controller - 1 Compensates tones when printing with Network Controller screen type 1.
Network Controller - 2 Compensates tones when printing with Network Controller screen type 2.

NOTE: Printing the chart for Auto Gradation does not increase the meter count.
NOTE: When gradation adjustment is executed, the following
changes will be made to default copy settings set in System Settings mode: Copy density = Normal or Auto, Color Shift = Normal, Saturation = Normal, Color Balance = 0, Sharpness = 0.
NOTE: When Print or Network Controller gradation adjustment is executed, the printer’s output profiles for the available screen types are compensated.

1 On the Image Quality Adjustment screen, select Auto Gradation Adjustment.
2 Load 8.5x11 inch or A4 paper into Tray 5 (Bypass). Move the paper guide to gently touch the edge of the paper.

3 Select the desired gradation adjustment screen:
• Copy Job - Text
• Copy Job - Photo
• Print Job
• Network Controller - 1
• Network Controller - 2
Press Start. The Adjustment Chart is output.
4 Place the Adjustment Chart face down on the Document Glass with both Magenta color patches against the left side of the glass.
5 Place 5 sheets of white paper on top of the Adjustment Chart and close the DADF. Select Start.
6 To continue Auto Gradation Adjustment with other screens, repeat steps 2 to 5. When you are finished, select Close until the System Settings screen is displayed.
7 Select Exit to exit the System Settings mode.
