Hello, I have an Hp pavillion dv6000. It used to have windows vista on it, and one day it downloaded and installed updates from windows atomatically. this crashed it. i would keep trying to start it and it would say there is a missing or corrupt file. i tried the recovery disc and the cd rom wont work. it wont boot from anything EXCEPT the hard drive. i have installed two linux based systems on it since then, first fedora, then ubuntu. which both worked just fine. but i didn't like either os. so i got windows 7 and put that on the hard drive. but for some reason it wont boot windows. (i put these os on the hard drive using a different laptop then plugged it back into my hp.) i don't know why it refuses to boot via cd rom. and i don't know what else to try. any kind of help would be great!

If you are using a Windows Vista operating system, this is what you can do:

1. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet and that you know the model number of your laptop.
2. connect to the HP website through the link http://h20180.www2.hp.com/...
3. After selecting your laptop model, click on Software & Drivers Downloads
4. Hence, choose your operating system (in this case it is Vista).
5. Choose the software update file that you need and follow the instructions. please do let me know if u using XP os.. cheers!!
