Being in standard mode is not a problem, it is how it should be , however if you want to change print mode go on printer properties from file menu/ print, or from control panel.
From control panel find your printer among 'installed printers' , click mouse right button and select properties , in properties you can chose the mode. Standard mode is ok for generic print operations, other modes may waste more ink

My MP600 printer prints horizontal stripes on glossy photo paper. Also, a single line of black dots prints vertically. I have deep cleaned the nozzle and realigned the printing. The wide black cartridge...

First your white horizontal lines are due to you not printing in the best quality. Go into the printing preferences and change the quality to best/quality.

The dots printed vertically are possibly due to ink getting onto the star wheels on the doc exit rollers. Also its possible that the printing media is a bit on the thin side and may need to be supported when exiting the machine.

Those should solve your problem. A new printhead wont make any difference.

Good luck

Canon pixma mp600 printer will not print documents.

This will be because your black pigment (the large cartridge) will have clogged in the printhead.

Cleaning it can take a while and I've already posted a solution for this, for an MP780 so I'd take a look at that and see if it helps you solve your problem.

Oh and the reason your web pages print ok? It's because the printer is using a combination of the other inks to create black, not printing black directly... PDF's and document printouts are different as they DO use the pigment black...

Hope that helps.

Why is there 2 black ink cartridges in my Canon MP600 printer

On some printers, probably including yours, the black ink will be taken from the reserves in your colour cartridge unless you specifically tell it to do a black and white print on each document, regardless of whether it's printing black exclusively. I wouldn't worry, the black ink in it's own cartridge can also be used for colour photos etc with no detrimental effects.
