The picture turns off and on every 30 seconds i think. I tried taking the lamp out and cleaning it, put it all back in and it does it again. When this problem started i didnt even notice if the lamp light is on. All i know is when it goes off and on the power light stays on and i notice from behind the tv that the lamp is off and comes back on with it. Can you help me please?

Re: i have this sony kdf-e60a20
Lamp is monitored by an over-current protect circuit. When the lamp starts drawing a little more current than normal, the set starts shutting off the video and audio then in a couple minutes restrike the lamp. Unique to sony WEGA's, replace w/ new type xl-2200u, you should be o.k.

I recently got a 60 inch Sony KDF-E60A20 from a friend for around. ... runs for about 1 minutes then goes black(no picture no sounds), then the picture and sound come right back on for another minutes then off for 30 seconds.
Replace lamp in tv because symptom shows lamp is near to end of its working hours life and causing that problem. If lamp has not been replaced in tv in last 2-3 years, its time to replace it to solve the issue. Lamp replacement procedure is easy and written in user manual. Thanks.
Hi, It is clear symptoms that tv needs new lamp as old lamp has reached at end of its life. Lamp replacement procedure is easy and would be written in user manual, please buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv. Let me know if you have additional question. Thanks.
5 is a bad lamp ballast . but you should check the lamp first. those tv's don't always detect ballast trying to start the lamp correctly. especially if its even been repaired before . most service poeple dont put the hv detect wire back in the correct place so when the lamp goes bad the tv thinks the ballast is bad. listen for a little short buzz or crackle noise from the back of the tv when you try to turn it on . the buzz noise last about 1 second and should happen about every 30 secoinds 3 times . if you hear it only the lamp is probly bad. or its a bad ballast
Lamp replacement is not difficult in Sony KDF-E60A20 TV and procedure is written in user manual. Unscrew two thumb screws at lower corner at back of TV and take off lower front panel, in approx center of lower front of TV, lamp cover is located, unscrew it, remove it and lamp is there, unscrew lamp with hex key (supplied in new lamp box) and take out old lamp, put new lamp and put things back in reverse order. Click Sony Support if you want to download user manual copy of TV. Thanks.
I have a sony KDF-E60A20 projection tv. The picture would go out for about 30 seconds and come back on. It would continue to cycle this way. The green power light would stay on and not flash. The sound would go off when the picture went out and come back on when the picture came back on. I tried taking the bottom cover off the back exposing the fan and blowed it out with a vacuum cleaner, also taking out the bulb and blowing it out. That didn't help. So I ordered a new bulb from Advancedlamps.com and that's what it was. I have now had it on and off for two days and no problems. Cost of lamp was $107.00 including shipping. Good Luck!
I finally wet out and bought the tv repair manual. Thought the problem had to be more than the bulb because i was losing sound too. Everything in hte repair manual brought me to the bulb or the ballast. I ordered a replacemant bulb. I spent about 150, which included overnight shipping. I replaced the bulb just before Thanksgiving and haven't had any problems as of yet....
