Went to lower the downdraft vent and it hit a pan and "jumped." When it hit bottom the motor to raise/lower the vent keeps running

You said that the switch that stops the motor when the vent is down was knocked out of position by the jump. Find it (it's on the lower lip) and fix it.

Do I need to raise the snorkel unit to access the lower lip? And to lift up the snorkel unit do I need to remove the Trim?

I may have posted this already. I took off the wire box cover and reset the gear motor (merely by pushing the magnetic [?] contact). The motor does not stay on when I plugged it back in.. However, I reattached the switch and now when I push it, the motor engages, but the downdraft does not move up. Any advice?

Yes, and no - the switch is at the bottom, right next to the control box.

Check the lifting mechanism - when it went out of tracks it might have broken (or bended out of position) the plastic collar that is attached to the snorkel that is gliding on the motor shaft.

yes you are right..there are switches that should be detected that the unit is in its proper level ans hould stop and turn the fan on.

you may inspect the railing or where the moving part is moving to find limit switches or sliding switches or sensors..it could have been defective with oil or grease and not making contact to transfer the signal to the controller.

I used my grill for the first time, & the downdraft didn't work we'll, the house filled with smoke & eventually the downdraft shut off and I had to finish cooking in a pan. My Jenn-Air is...

The downdraft is electric so there must be something malfunctioning with it. It is a high volume downdraft fan that is to be vented to the outside. Could it be that something has clogged the vent hole up, not allowing the fan to evacuate the smoke?

While I am not a big fan of Jenn-Air, their fans are usually high quality if they are installed correctly, with the proper vent lines.

I have a GE downdraft vent, model #JVB94SH1SS. A couple months ago I pushed the button to put it down and it went down and up and down and up and down and up and...well you get it. I had to unplug it to...

I had the same problem. It is the switch. Hang on because that little $3 swtich is about $60 from a parts house. Sears wanted $114. If you take the switch out or disconnect the switch at the board and jumper the two leads, (12v), it should work fine. That will tell you whether it is the switch. I did it with a small screwdriver. Careful, even though it is 12v it will get yor attention. I have all GE appliances and they are all junk.

JVB37H1BB downdraft ventilation system stuck

Folks, I have experienced the same problem several times - in all of my cases the problem was solved by simply opening the back panel and taking out the motor assembly and re-aligning it. Check out this URL for a blow up of what's inside and parts list - http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5130126

The problem is that the arm tends to slip out and therefore won't raise or lower the hood anymore. Be careful when aligning it can be a little tricky - carefully observe the how the motor works outside of the housing via the switch and you will get the idea.

Driver side passenger window won't raise back up

It is either the motor of the switch. Operate the switch while listening where the sound is coming from in the door. Then while you are trying to raise the window, hit the interior door panel with some force, not enough to break anything, but hard enough to contact the motor. If it is binding it should allow the window to raise. If it is trying to raise it is probably the motor.

Ge downdraft vent

try removing the switch from the ribbon connector, and then jumping the two pins momentarily with a screwdriver blade or other metallic tool. It could be that the switch itself is bad. This is the same problem I'm having and I am currently looking for a replacement switch online.
