The spa heater says the spa is 118 degrees when it is not even on. When i try and heat the spa, the heater wont turn on because it thinks it is already heated? How do I fix the thermostat? Where is it?

Both the pool thermostat and the spa thermostat say the water temp is between 118 and 128 degrees. Do you know how I can reset the thermstat so that it works correctly?

  • dnock1 Aug 21, 2010

The thermostat suggests that the pool water and the spa water is between 118 and 128 degree when the heater has not been on. The heater wont come on because it thinks the pool and spa is already heated. Any suggestions?

The thermostat is electronic. It is contained within what is called the "universal controller power interface pc board". Yeah, quite a mouthful. However it uses a sensor to measure the water temperature. The sensor is part of a set of 2, located under the water outlet on the outside of the unit. The pc board referred to is the middle part of the control board contained within the unit itself above the heat exchanger. You dont mention any error messages so I assume there arent any.

Hi

1. Turn off the power to both the pool/spa control system and the heater unit.
2. Remove the front panel door from the front of the heater to access the raceway.
3. Run the wires from the pool/spa control system through the opening, Thermostat is located on the lower right or left hand side of the heater.

Hope this helps... If it does please do not forget to accept the solution or post back for assistance.

Spa keeps overheating

Hi,
Faulty temperature sensor should do this to.
A floating thermometer should read water temperature within 3-4 degrees of spa controller. If it is greater than that your sensor is bad.
The hi limit is an over heat sensor it does not control the temperature of the water. If the water is heating above 118 degrees and the spa is not shutting down its Hi Limit.

Our heater will not heat past 78 degrees. How do we get it to heat above that. Is there a factory set temp control problem? Thank you

Yes there is, but only a service technician is allowed to adjust it. However, the fact that you are only reaching 78 degrees makes me think something else is wrong.

Your bypass valve is probably the culprit. It is located where the Pipes enter the heater. It has a spring on it that is thermally activated to open and close. This allows the right amount of water to pass through the heater. Too much water and the water will not heat up. Too little water and the heater will vibrate and howl!

You could also have a faulty thermostat.

Also, always use a heater blanket when trying to heat a spa or pool. It will save you lots of money and time! And they are cheap!

SNS appears on digital screen

This indicates the the 2 installed temp sensors are having a reading the is more than 2 degrees in difference. It is either a failed sensor, or one of the sensors is not fit snuggly into the header.
To test a sensor, turn your multimeter on OHMS or RESISTANCE and connect probes to each wire. at 80 degrees, the sensor should read 93 OHMS. At 70 degrees it should read 118 OHMS
at 60 degrees it should read 153 OHMS

My spa heater is saying the spa is 126 degrees so

Use a thermometer to check the actual temp of the water to see if the units temp probe is accurate. Also what is the max temp allowed by the spas safety program...owners manual.

Spa / hot tub does not heat

Your temperature control is way out of calibration or, it's wired wrong. Remove it and check it in a glass of water. Use an ohm meter across the heater wires. As you add hot wwater, the heater contacts should open.
