thanks for all your comments but none of these help, there are no external speakers connected to the tv. I just pulled it out of the box and connected it to the cable box and the sound is very low. I've tried all the settings in the manual, but must admit I am just pushing buttons... nothing seems to work. I even tried connecting external speakers, but no sound come frm them at all. It's a digital tv but I can get it to change from the analog mode... even though I try to set the digital option....

Once again thank you all for your help, I decided to disconnect the cable box and all the other connections (video, etc) then i found an S-video cable, I removed the cable that comes from the cable box and just used the Svideo cable and changed the input settings from TV input to Input 1, and what do you know, the sound came thru loud and clear. So I dont need external speakers or have to return it after all. YAAA for me.. Buts thanks everyone anyway..... I will post again for help on how to hook up some logitech speakers and woofer to the same tv, but later....

Sound amplifier circuit may be faulty. You need some experience for troubleshooting it. Better take it to an authorized repair station.

The sound problem is internal to the set, the main board has an audio failure. since it is new out of the box, call sharp to have it serviced under warranty or return it to the store you purchased it for replacement. this is nothing you have done, it just is a failure of the components or software of the main board. sharp may even have a software up grade to solve the problem. so call them first.

I think that you just have a defective tv and should return it and get a different one.

Things to try before returning it are.

1. Pressing audio on the remote to toggle between Mono, Sap, etc. settings and see if any of them improve the audio

2.

3. Download the manual here -> http://www.retrevo.com/search/v2/jsp/downloadPage.jsp?doc=202375cfd4595c46604e771e6c8300db&q=Sharp+LC-37SH20U&e=1

refer to page 19

Let me know what you try and if none of the above works, let me know and we can try further options

thanks

Consult your user's manual. There are various volume settings that can be applied. Maybe it is set to a soft low tone.

HI,

Try unpluging all the cords from the back for 4 hours and then plug it back this will restore the factory default settings and also make sure that all the connections are tightly plugged in.

Goodluck,

Following a audible pop TH 50PZ85U will not power on.

Most common thing to happen is a capacitor went bad on one of the circuit boards making the loud POP sound. Odds are it's on the Power Supply Board if the TV isn't showing power at all. The picture below what a bad capacitor looks like.

They range from different sizes and color. Swollen, deformed, and raised top is the thing to look for.

Solder in a new capacitor on the board or replace the whole circuit board.

Volume not loud enough

are you watching movies frm a dvd player with the sound up, if so, turn the sound up on the dvd player remote and see hwo that works. eor, if its movies on normal tv screen, go to settings and click booster sound too hear better. if yours does not have this, ring your manufacture for a refunded tv with better speakr sound quality.
