Well if your condenser fan shot out, i'd advise that you shouldn't use the unit but all your doing buy putting the fan is doing the job of the defective one. but your causing more stress to the compressor and system, your forcing it to "work overtime" so technically you are cutting the compressor's life

I have a noisy cooling fan. I have cleaned and removed all the dust from the vents in the compressor compartment, but the fan still make a squeeking sound. Can the fan be oiled or greased or should it...

Is the area between your fridge and freezer smoking hot? Can you smell the rubber seals melting? Does your fridge squeak like crazy? You have an issue with your condenser fan. You can save about $50 by fixing the fan motor yourself. I'm no engineer but this was an easy fix. 1) Unplug the fridge. 2) Take off the lower back panel covering the condenser and fan. 3) Unplug the fan (on the top left from the fan. 4) Slide the fan out of the bracket 5) Take the fan blade off. (This will take the most time and TLC, it is glued on) 6) Take the two screws out of the back of the housing. **The fan motor should be free of the housing and blade** 7) Remove the two screws from the fan motor housing. 8) Pull the shaft out of the motor and clean all parts with some oil and a rag. 9) Make sure all moving parts are well oiled then put the shaft back in the motor housing. 10) Replace the motor housing screws 11) Replace the motor into the fan housing and replace the screws. 12) Slide the fan blade back onto the shaft (I used some super glue to help hold it in place) 13) Slide the fan housing back into place 14) Plug the fan into the socket 15) Plug in the fridge to make sure your fix worked (it may take a minute to kick on) 16) Replace the lower cover

Quit cooling.fridge and freezer b

You need to check the Condenser coils, these are copper coils of tubing usually located on the back of the unit near the ground. They need to be free of all dust and grease to work at maximumefficiencyand it is recommended to clean them every 6 to 10 months. If those coils are already clean, the next thing to do is check the evaporator fan(The fan inside the unit). See if it's running. If it's not, check the coils behind it. If the coils are frozen up then you probably have to change out the fan motor. If they aren't frozen up then there may be a refrigerant leak or a bad compressor*. In order to legally reclaim, recharge, or test refrigerants you need a special certification2_bing.gif from the EPA. If you need to do so I recommend you call in a certified technician.
If the lights, fans, and compressor aren't working at all, check your fuse/breaker box to see if anything is tripped or blown.
*To replace the compressor you need to reclaim and recharge the refrigerants from the system.

Our model HRF08W frig never cooled properly (although

Yes, there is a fan that moves cold air from the freezer compartment to the refrigerator. If this does not turn, the refrigerator compartment will not receive adequate cooling.

If the fan is turning, you should be able to hear it. It is likely located behind an access door in the freezer compartment. This door is likely held in place with screws. Remove the screws, open the door, and see if the fan is turning. If not, you will need to replace the fan motor.

I assume that you noticed a loss of cooling in the refrigerator and freezer? In order to tell if it's the defrost timer, a good idea would be to check and see if there is a large amount of ice behind the interior back panel of the freezer (where the evap fan motor is located). If there is, you most likely have a defrost problem. There should be some frost, but it shouldn't be thick chunks of ice.

Otherwise, you probably just need to replace the fan. If you have a GE that takes an electronic control board, you may need to replace it as well. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
