Question about KitchenAid KBRA20ELSS Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Open Question

I have a 5 year old Kitchenaid bottom freezer KBRA20E. We moved and the refrigerator was in storage for about a year. Now it won't cool at all. I hear the compressor, but no cool air in either the freezer or refrigerator compartments. Is there a way to check coolant and add if needed?

SOURCE: Refrigerator won't cool. Freezer works fine!

Pierce, there was a service bullitin put out on this model. TDR-0010A-B. Had to do with normal freezer, warm fresh food compartment. Maytag issued a kit that included a new thermostat and damper assy. to solve this problem. Bullitin came out in 2002. If you are not having a defrost issue and all fans are running normal, I would call Maytag and inquire about the above posted bullitin, It may be covered. back.

First thing I would this unit frosting up? Turn it off for two days...with the doors defrost completely. Clean out the condenser coils with a brush. Inspect and clean any gaskets not sealing. When up the back panel and check the compressor. It is that big black thing. Find and clean off the largest pipe. Watch the pipe...It will frost initially on startup. Does the frost remain after 5 minutes or turn to ice, water or dry out? If still frosty, you are low on gas. If other conditions, then you either are opening the door too often, those gaskets are damaged or you have defrost issues.

SOURCE: Freezer quits working

Good Day, I live out in Ca. and have only experience temp's like what you guys endure once in my lifetime. But I grew up, with Bart Starr, he was my guy, leading the Pac. in the Ice Bowl. I'm hoping to get one of the guys to add to my comments I'm going to suggest to you, there are many guys more qualified with more experience than I, that might offer more. Sometimes with Refrigerators and Freezers, is that during periods of long cold spells, the appliances can actually NOT produce enough Run-time to sustain the foods inside. In other words, because its so damn cold it will go off and if the thermostat doesn't sense the temp has risen to the point it needs to come back on, it won't. Ice creams, because of the salt content, bread (it has no density) these will be the first foods to be effected. 20yrs ago I remember we have a strip heater... wr49x211 I think it was, to add heat to get the thermostat to cycle back on.... Check around, ask -Re-post and List it.. I want somebody who knows Refer's, Lives and Works in tough weather... that'll get an answer

If any moisture was left in the unit prior to storage with the doors closed, it has caused the door tracks to become rusty and non functional. Refrigerator units should always be left ajar for many days following removal of power to allow the interior to fully defrost, and dry out. Extended periods of trapped moisture inside the unit will also cause corrosion on the aluminum coil, and cooling failure. Pleazer Appliance...

Fridge in storage for 4 yrs, now not cooling

Good day,
After that much time, be sure the fan motor in the freezer compartment is running, as well as the fan motor on the back bottom behind the cover by the compressor. Either could well have frozen up after 4 years of storage.
As well a refrigerant leak could have developed because of the time frame. However, if it is less then 5 years old, the sealed system would still be under factory warranty.

My KitchenAid KBRS22K bottom mount refrigerator is eight years old. Was working fine, but now the refrigerator does not cool, but the freezer stays cold. The fan seems to work and the coils have been...

the problem here is the defrost element is not coming on, the problem is the control board in the fresh food compartment is defective and not telling the element to defrost. Therefore your cooling coils are impacted with ice which keeps freezer cold, and sensor in freezer says everything is ok and therefore sends nothing to refrigerator. Replace the defrost control board, Thaw out the cooling coils in freezer, and your back in business
