Hi, I own a Husqvarna 235r Strimmer and the engine has seized on it. I've been told that i need a new cylinder and piston to fix it. I've been quoted what i think is a very high price for these accessories. I was wondering could you advice me where i could buy these parts at a reasonable price. Thank you

Plenty of people selling after market parts on E Bay, however the quaility is not always as good as it should be, so you pay your money and take your choice

K970 HUSQVARNA WONT START

You need to check the engine has not seized, remove the muffler and check the condition of the piston face through the open exhaust port, any sign of damage or scuffing and the cylinder will have to be removed to assess the damage, the 970 does not really suffer with much else, so if the piston looks fine then its back to basics, is the fuel in the tank good? is the plug getting wet? is there a spark at the plug?

Unseize engine on mac alister 44cc strimmer

the engine will have to be pulled apart as the ring and the piston will be damaged
if you have no experience in this take it to a small engine shop or a mower shop for the job
with the cost of parts and labour to do the job ,I would consider a new unit

Husqvarna 235r brush cutter starts fine when cold but won't start when hot

There is a simple test you should do on this unit. first remove engine cover, then remove spark plug, then take soapy water and spray it around the base of the cylinder where it meets the crank case, if you have compressed air and a air gun, shoot air through spark plug hole and watch for bubbles around base of cylinder. be careful to only shoot very low pressure into unit. if you see bubbles there is an air leak, this is not repairable. new unit.

450 husqvarna rancher stopped suddenly now the engine wont turn over, any suggestions? Less than a year old and minimal use and im using 50:1 gas mixture

If turns over and won't fire up it can be several things. But yours will not turn over, so it has seized. There may not have been enough oil in the gas. This needs a serious repair or engine replacement. The cylinder will need to be stripped and checked possibly piston/rings/ cylinder will need replacing, and they may never be as good again. Consider replacing the engine unit as a whole.

I put a new barrel and piston in my 288 and it seized

Have you used a geunine OEM cylinder and piston. Cheeper aftermarket parts are a waste of money.

We have a Suzuki 50cc quad with automatic start. When you go to turn it and nothing. husband said the piston is stuck and it wont turn , not enough power. How can we fix that

If the piston is seized up you will need to remove the cylinder head, the the cylinder, then the piston. Tank the cylinder and piston to a dealer and have them bore the cylinder and supply a piston and ring set matching the new cylinder bore. Also get a new cylinder base gasket and cylinder head gasket. Check the gas / oil ratio. I prefer the old 32-1 mix. That way I am sure not to seize up. By the way, keep the outside of the cylinder clean. Cylinder fins covered in mud do not cool the engine well.

My petrol strimmer which is quite new, stopped. i let it cool down, but i cant restart it as the cord will not pull out. can you advise please?

I fear the engine has seized, you need to remove the muffler and check the condition of the piston through the exhaust port.

I was driving and my car lost all power and won't restart I've been told the engine is seized solid and the timing chain is broke and that's why it wont work but the wheel's didn't lock...

I assume your S class is an automatic gearbox ,hence the roll to a stop when engine seize/cam chain break.the symptoms of a camchain break would be the valves will hit the pistons causing major damage to valves, pistons, cylinder head, conrods, bores and possibly crank. Its possible that the engine seized first causing the chain to break, either way it would be a seriously expensive/terminal engine problem.

Bike siezed up.rocking it frees up and starts but locks up

The piston seize destroys the piston, rings and cylinder wall. Bad enough, and repeated seizing, can get metal bits into the crank rod bearing and crank end bearings and seals. This is serious stuff. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Seizing is caused by friction. Not enough lubrication means friction that creates heat. The heat builds and the piston and rings "weld" to the cylinder. A faulty cooling system can also cause heat. Any oil will break down and loose it's lubrication ability when the heat gets too high. A water pump malfunction or plugged coolant lines, leaking coolant hoses, plugged radiator and bad gaskets can create heat.

Other sources are > timing is off, air leak causing the fuel to be too lean, incorrect spark plug heat range, carbon buildup on piston and head causing detonation, motor oil used in gas instead of 2 stroke engine oil and over revs on the engine. I have probably left a few things out but these are the usual causes. Be aware that combinations of small problems can add up to a seize.

The engine needs to be rebuilt. Normally I would just rebuild the top end but since you have had multiple seizes the bottom end is probably contaminated. New crank bearings and seals should be installed. If the cylinder can't be bored then you will need a new cylinder. New piston and rings are also required. Bear in mind, you must find the cause or causes of the heat and fix those problems also. If you don't, the new piston will quickly seize up.

I have a V reg S70 volvo. The cam belt has snapped and I was also told by the mechanic that the cylinders have seized up. Any suggestions as to what i should do. Thanks Richard

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the enginies are interferance engines. That means when the timing belt breaks the valves and the pistons hit each other. Usually only the cylinder head will need to be replaced/repaired, but if the engine seized up then the engine will have to be replaced.
