Cannot set up wireless connection

First, I just want to say--OMFG-- what a hassle to get wireless printing to work. I don't recommend this printer for

anyone that's not computer savvy, unless you just want to print through the usb cable.

My problems started when I first bought the printer and tried to install from the cd. I ran into several 'Fatal Flaw'

errors which required the software to uninstall, the computer to restart, then try to install software again after

searching the HP support webpage to determine the cause of failure. I finally gave up and went to the HP download page

and downloaded this:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL23513/mp-60963-2/OJJ4600_Basic_10.exe

This installed everything without errors but I still couldn't do wireless printing.
I tried to connect using the wizard but it said it couldn't find the printer. The error report file said the

passphrase on my printer did not match my router. So I thought I had forgotten my router password. I reconfigured the

router password and I received the same error message.

My next step was to press the wrench key on the printer control panel and press the arrow keys beside the OK button

until I found "wireless menu".I clicked OK and proceeded to enter the data manually on the printer. Voila, success! or

so I thought. It told me that connecting to the router was successful but I still couldn't print.

My printer showed up in the Printers and Fax section of contol panel, the drivers installed properly, the printer said

it was connected to the router, and I could print using a usb cable. Just no wireless.

If it wasn't for the fact that it was 1:00 am I would have taken it back for a refund.

I decided to try one last thing. I opened Printers and Faxes in control panel then "Add a Printer" in the top left

corner.then:

"Local printer attached to this computer"
DID NOT check "Automatically detect and install Plug and Play printer"
"Use the following port" I used "DOT4_002(Officejet J4680 Printer)"
Manufacturer-- "HP" Printers--"HP Officejet J4680 Series
Kept existing drivers
Printer Name "HP Officejet J4680 Series (Copy 2)"
printed a test page and -----

it still didn't work.

The only option I had left was to add a printer and CREATE A NEW PORT, which FINALLY solved the problem. Here is how

to do that.

For Windows XP

Click:
Control Panel
Printer and Faxes
Add a Printer (should be in the top left corner)
Check "Local printer attached to this computer"
DO NOT check "Automatically detect and install Plug and Play printer"
NEXT
Choose "Create a new a port"
if it asks you to input a name, enter whatever you want in the "name" box. It should be something so you will

recognize it as your printer.
Choose "Standard TCP/IP Port"
NEXT
A new wizard should pop up.
NEXT
********
For this step you will need to go the control panel on your printer to find your printers IP address.
Press the wrench button, scroll the arrow keys until you see "Print Report", press OK, then scroll to find "Network

Configuration"
Print this page. Under GENERAL INFORMATION find the URL number.
********

Go back to the Add Printer Wizard
In the top row, enter the URL like this: 192.168.0.100 using your numbers
NEXT
Choose the "Custom" button
NEXT
and you should be finished.

If it still doesn't work you may need to manually configure your DHCP router to input a static M.A.C address for the

printer, which you can find on the sheet you printed off. It should look something like this
Hardware Address (MAC) 00345a0d04v
Consult your router help files to find how to do that or search the web.

It took me two days to figure this out so I hope this will help.

Since Hp have Vista driver to your printer...to install the driver...do not plug the printer...install the driver that you downloaded (run the program as Administrator)..after you install, if the installation ask for restart..restart your computer...after restart and the whole system finish his task on loading driver and dll ..then plug in your printer...it will pop up message found new hardware. click next and choose automatic find the driver.

what Cable are you using to connect?
USB a and b?

Software problem

I had the same issue when I tried to print. I had to set my default printer to an older printer. Everything else worked fine. If you get this error when printing hopefully you can reset your default printer. I don't think the software has updated printer drivers for some of the newer printers.
