Question about Goodman CLQ36AR49 Air Conditioner

1 Answer

The model # is CKL36-1L. The circuit breaker for the unit flipped twice last week. Yesterday I noticed the blower in the house was working non-stop, but the conditioner was not working. The fuses were checked and there appears to be continuity. How do I find the problem?

Your compressor may be going bad. Check and make sure you have a proper sized breaker/fuses for the unit. Check and see that the capacitor is big enough to start the compressor and is not blown. I think those take a 45-5 cap. If all else fails, get a hard start kit from an HVAC distributor and install it as per the instructions. It may help delay the inevitable if the compressor is going.

This is a good question to ask. 1. if a unit trippes a breaker its for 2 reasons. A. to protect the wiring from catching fire . B. to protect you from electrical contact with ashort condition. Before you buy a new unit I would recommend you fix the wiring as bad siring is ******* the unit and costly to operate due to load resistance. Also replace any breakers that are unsed to support this unit. Brealers go bad esp if they have been problematic in the past. I am not certain as to the size of the unit you have now but if it cooled the room well then replace it with a match or a bit bigger unit.
As to why it tripps the breaker now? could be a couple thing Bad wiring like you state. weak breakers as I pointed out. or a bad compressor or fans. Or in my view its most like a combo of all the above. Hope this helps let me know.. Jon

Inside Electric Furnace/Air Handler Not Working. Please help!

ok this can be simple or tricky is the breaker that trips the same size as the one in the breaker panel 2.look in the unit itsself see if there r breakers inside the unit there usually are and they might have tripped it might be as simple as flipping a breaker but the problem with the breaker tripping is what concerns me now it may just be undersized or getting weak and finally crapped out get ur meter and flip the breaker on and see if u r getting power to the unit if ur not u have gott a breaker that isnt letting power go thru now if u have power u might have a bad blower motor turn the unit on and calling for the fan on if the fan doesnt start try spinning the blower by hand now if it starts then u probably have a bad capacitor they r usually mounted on the side of the blower housing it is oval and its gonna be a 5mfd(microfarad) or 7.5mfd and that couldve been what was kicking the breaker now if the blower is stuck and it wont turn or its very hard to turn then make sure the blower wheel hasnt slipped on the shaft and is rubbing up against the housing if it is just loosen the set screw and set it back even and tighten it back up now if the wheel is free and its still hard to turn then u have a bad blower motor its not a big deal to change out and not real expensive if this dont help hit me back and well walk thru it hope this gets lil momma and the pets warm have a good day

My central heating unit is in the attic of my 2bd/2bth house. I don't know its age. It's a gas unit, but doesn't have a constant pilot flame. Rather, the pilot is ignited electronically. The problem is...

You don't mention make or model so here is my guess as to how to thinkout the trouble of what ever is in your attic.

For some reason, your heater is mis-firing. Normally, I would expect 3 to 5 such events at which time the heater goes out on safety. The heater knows it is on safety but you don't until it gets cold in your house. When you turn the power off, wait the 30 seconds, turn it back on, the heater no longer knows it is on safety (memory cleared) so it fires. Your heater continues to fire until ? at which time it starts counting again to 3 or some number. At the max mis-fire number - it goes out on safety again ... repeat - turn it off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on - no memory and so forth.

Do you have a service contract or regular service man? Might be time to find one.

Maytag 3000 Series front load gas dryer (Whirlpool) - No lights, no digital display, not able to turn on or start. Yes, unit is plugged in to AC outlet. Yes, AC voltage is good at 120V. Yes, circuit...

OK everyone, my ears are red. Over the weekend, I gave this another shot, since my warranty repair appointment isn't until next week.

I opened the dryer door (the drum light is off, indicating no power at all) and went to the circuit breaker box, and flipped the washer/dryer breaker back to off and then re-set the breaker again.

When I got to the laundry room - the drum light was on!

So I powered up the unit, and ran the machine. It ran for about one minute, and then went off. So I went back and re-set the breaker again.

Visually, the breakers did NOT LOOK tripped - but flipping the thing off and then on to re-set the breaker worked.

This time, the dryer is working fine. The bad part is: I need to replace the breaker for the second time. So this is NOT a defective dryer, it is a bad electrical supply. I will call the electrician back to make him fix this right. . . . .

Thanks again for all who responded. This is a new unit, purchased on 7/7/2009.

Blower never stops. AC outside jammed to stay on???

You need to call someone who truely knows what they're doing. From your decription, the person you had out should not be working on units. You have a problem most likely caused be the person that installed the new motor and these units are not designed to be worked on by the homeowner. There are hazards that could cause damage or injury.

My blower motor will not stop running, and my ignitor doesn't light.

I am assuming you are talking about a Natural Gas or LP furnace. The blower motor is powered by a separate 120 volt circuit, so flipping the 240 volt breaker for the furnace will not shut it off. There should be a regular light switch at the furnace that will turn off the blower for servicing the unit. When you take the cover off the unit, there should be instructions on how to re-set the igniter. If it won't re-set, try shutting off the gas for a few minutes, then turn it back on and then reset. If none of this works, and you can't find the owners manual, call a service technician.
