Question about HP - HP Photosmart 8250 printer

2 Answers

Is it possible to disable the date chip on the ink cartridge? I have a HP8250 Photosmart printer, the yellow ink is outdated and I cannot even print a black and white document! I do not live near any stores so I cannot just go out and buy a new cartridge. Any help you can provide would be welcome!

Black printer ink in HP Photosmart may fail to be recognized by the printer. Most times an error message will be sent indicating that something is wrong with the black print cartridge. Sometimes the printer may accept to print with the black ink, but the printouts may have horizontal lines and very illegible letters. In such a case a manual cleaning of the print head should be carried out. In doing the manual cleaning, one should spray Windex heavily on paper towel and wipe off the surface of the print head.

Try also this procedure, sorry with the first, not compatible with your printer.

    1. Press down the OK and Cancel buttons down at the same time and turn the printer off.

    2. Keep holding the buttons down until the printer turns off.

    3. Release the buttons.

    4. Now turn the printer on while pressing the OK and Cancel buttons. It should cycle a bit then turn back off.

    5. Turn the unit on again.

    6. After the second time off/on the printer will recalibrate the ink cartridges, this will take about 5 minutes.

    7. After calibration it should be online ready to print. Print a test page to verify operation.

Often they have a chip mounted on the cartridge which monitors usage and when it determines that there is no ink remaining, it will disable the printer. Some companies sell compatible cartridges and reset the chip counter. But unless you reset the chip, even tho the cartridge is full of ink, the chip still disables the printer.

Is it possible to convert this printer so it only uses black ink and it operates without the color cartridges?

Hi,

The Photosmart printers work in Thermal Inkjet printing technology. This require all cartridges to be present with ink for printer to work.

You may disable the color printing feature using the printer properties, even though the color cartridge will still be in use.

Only Laser jet printers can work with Black cartridge alone.

I have the HP photosmart C6280 printer.. 2007 edition and it has all different color ink cartridges, the yellow ink is almost out so it will not let me print anything. I am just trying to print off a word...

It seems simple enough, but this is one of the most effective ways of fixing printer cartridge error. Mostly, printer cartridge error occurs when the printer head is unable to identify the cartridge properly. And the basic reason behind this is that the cartridge is improperly attached.
To reattach the cartridge check the following steps :
turn on the lid of the printer and then remove the cartridge from the printer head.
Check the cartridge to make sure that there are no scratches or other damaged parts that can contribute to a printer cartridge error report.
Take note that the cartridge should not be left open for more than 30 minutes; otherwise the ink will start to dry up and the cartridge will get clogged.

When refilling an inkjet cartridge that contains a chip, the chip records when the cartridge goes low and then empty. The chip needs to be replaced to eliminate the low or out message. You can set the printer to continue printing when it receives an out message even though there is ink available. However if you do run the printer and there is no ink flowing it can cause damage to the prinheads.

Ink and Print issues always says replace blk and yellow ink and printer says its ready to print but won't print on HP Photosmart C6180

If you have replaced them and it still says so than it is not reading the chip on the back of the cartridge. push and wiggle the cartridge and see if there is a change. If you do a lot of printing and are tired of getting screwed by HP look at the refillable carts on this page "http://www.inksupply.com/inkjet_cartridges.cfm?search_getmodel=982" . Just never use any other brand of ink. cheap ink will kill the printer.

Hello,

We have a step by step solution posted on our we site at: www.ccl-la.com/HP.htm The problem is air in the ink lines and the guide helps you purge the air from the system and restore printing.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Need help fixing ink problem

Sometimes the chip that lets the printer know it's good doesn't work.

Try this to see if it's the chip not being recognized...

Turn the printer off.
Hold down these 4 buttons: (CANCEL - OK - BLACK - COLOR) then power on while still holding the 4 buttons.
Continue to hold the 4 buttons until a rainbow colored screen comes up.
You can then let go of the 4 buttons.
Press the power button again.
You should now be in MFG Mode.

Try to print something.
-----
The screen may say something you're not used to seeing (such as... ink threshold exceded or whatever), but try to send something to the printer anyway.

If it prints, then there was a problem with the chip recognition and see if you can get an exchange. I just kept mine in manufacturer's mode until that ink cartridge ran out without problems!

Good luck!
