I am also getting the pink line on every page on the left side. Where is the scanner assembly to clean? Is it behind the cartridges and are there some instructions to help?

First you print the config page from Reports menu. Look at the bottom 4 stripes in 4 colors. If they are even by all their lenght, you dont have to clean the laser assy. This verical line usually is done by the fuser's hot roller that is weared and collects toner. It is a steel sleeve with teflone coating, rolling around a ceramic heater. To take the fuser for repair, remove back and side covers. Then remove the grey part of the top cover with s flat screwdriver. Then remove 4 screws that hold the upper cover and remove it. The fuser is at the end of the paper path. remove the wires and screws that hold it and take it out. Disasemble it and replace the teflone sleeve.
To get to the laser scanner assy remove the back and side covers. Then remove the frame with the PC boards on the back. The laser scanner assy is a black plastic box behind the frame. remove its screws and take it out. Remove one screw to open and clean.

I have just collected a second hand HP 1600 printer and there is a 2cm green vertical line down the left side of the page and a 3mm line down the centre and 2 thin lines down the right side, help!

Hi,
Dots, Lines and smudges on the printouts are due to deteriorating cartridges and cleaning the green drum of the cartridge may help temporarily. Take out the cartridge and gently clean the roller/ green drum with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth wiping off the toner dots marks/ lines. (corresponding to the location where you are having a green line on the paper)
Also, make sure that the visible inside of the printer and the Black belt are clean and there is no spilled toner inside, which sometimes results in dots.
Moreover, streaks (thicker lines) and dots etc indicate faulty PCR Roller which is located behind the green drum inside the cartridge. Replace the Cartridge or get the PCR Roller changed by a professional.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Unable to align catridges

This printer has the ability to auto read the alignment page as it prints it. Pretty cool. If you've ever noticed a blue light shinning on the page as it prints the alignment page that is what it is doing. The optics are likely covered in ink that is fairly easily removed and cleaned if you have the know how and patience to do it. Turn on your printer, when you hear/see the print cartridge carriage moving side to side unplug the power, this will make it easy to move later. The job is easiest to do with the scanner assembly removed. With the scanner up, flex the printer sides out and push the scanner up, it should stand almost vertical. There are, I think, three cable to be unplugged at the back and the scanner will lift off the machine. The culprit is on the right side of the printer cartridge carriage behind a plastic cover. Should only be a few screws and a cable to unplug, clean thoroughly (I washed under running water and dried with compressed air, if compressed air not available be sure to completely air dry). Reassemble and see what happens. Good luck!

A Solid black line down the left side of the page

It could be 2 things...

1. Your scanner glass is dirty...open the doc feeder and clean the glass. probably Wite-Out.

2. A segment of your scanner assembly lamp is burned out. Not good, uneconomical to repair.

I have problem with the left side of the page - Color faded

This is a common fault on this model. The solution is to strip out the laser scanner unit. The laser scanner can be reached by removinh the back metal cover of the printer and the controll boards behind it. You need to clean the mirrors inside the laser scanner, for this you can use surgical spirits and cotton ear buds.Hope this helps. Any other queries, you can mail me renierfeldtmann7@gmail.com

I changed the black ink cartridge and the printer

Calibrate your new blank ink cartridge, have some nozzle check, cleaning check, and printer alignment. This are procedure that new ink cartridge will have to calibrate before you use. Epson printer are very sensitive when capable of changing ink cartridge. Unlink HP directly work without any print test because the cartridge head and ink join together, Epson with ink cartridge and the head separate.
Have some test on it at Printer Maintenance.
I'm sure 100% works on it.
Good luck!

Top to Bottom gray line on left side of Copied Page

hello
does the grey line appear if you scan true the "upper" scanner.(set paper on top of printer and sscan it that way)? you should also clean the smal slim glass that is at the side of the big scanner glass.
also try to remove all cartridges and tilt them side to side several times. then put them back and test your printer.

A pink line is on every page printed

This is a very common problem with this model printer, it is caused by toner on the scanner mirrors. You need to clean the scanner assembly unfortunately it isn't very easy to dissemble the printer to get to it.

Red is printing pink.

have u used this printer quite a bit....? if so the following may be the problem and I just did run across this recently in a printer we had in the shop....I recently read in one of my technical magazines that there may be a design flaw in the placement of the laser scanners and the openings that protect them....it seems that excess toner dust can readily get in to scanner area and specifically inside the scanner assembly and accumalate on the scanner glass and lens. Just cleaning through the opening in the back of the printer will not eliminate the issue. Machine will have to be disassembled, scanner removed and opened and the glass/lens cleaned with a q-tip....the placement of the fan (behind cartridges, lower right) seems to speed this process up and it usually becomes first notable with the magenta cartridge, seeing as it is at the bottom of the printer closest to the fan. Hope this helps..

Printing problems

Hi, There are 3 things that can cause blank pages. The most common is the laser shutter pops off on the spring side and blocks the laser from hitting the cartridge. The shutter opens when the cartridge is inserted. The cartridge guide that sits above and behind the cartridge misteriously gets eaten by the printer. Without it, the cartridge rides too high for the toner to transfer. The high voltage power supply goes totally dead. If the first 2 are ok, then replace the high voltage power supply. (There are 2 power supplies in the printer. One the low voltage power supply supplies voltage to all the boards, fans, etc. The high voltage ps only supplies voltage to the toner cartridge.)PS-The laser/scanner shutter is found under the top cover and below and by the front of the laser/scanner assembly (black box). Control of the shutter is on the left side of the laser/scanner. Good luck
