Sometimes it reads memory card error, and I try later and it works. SO frustrating. But lately- no matter how many crossed fingers and hail marys "Georgette" (the printer) will not behave!

I have had so many talks with her over this, I thought she should have a name. Please help. I am starving grad student trying to sell all my clothes on Ebay. But can not post as I can not get pics online!

My memory card keeps saying error what is the matter

- First identify the type of card, some memory card has lock or adapter. - Second, check the condition of the card.
  • Locked switch position
  • Visible discolorations or defects such as crack or nick in the card
  • Missing contacts at the end of the card
  • Deep scratches in the card contacts
  • Heat discoloration on the card
- Next, sure that the file format of the picture is supported by your printer - Then, try to save the file on your computer (If the computer can't read the memory card, the card might be causing the problem, you might contact the manufacturer of the card or replace the card) - If you successfully save the file on the computer, try other device like camera etc. - Format the memory card and try to capture an image and check if the file is corrupted or not. - If an error 'Unsupported Image File' appears, the memory is defective. try replacing the card or contact the manufacturer for further troubleshooting. - If the image displays properly, reinsert the memory to the printer. If the same error appears again, try using another memory card. - If the new memory card has the same issue try the steps provided above. And if the same error appears again after doing the steps call HP support to service your printer.

HP C5180 All-in-one : Memory Card Error, No memory card in it

  1. Remove the memory card from the camera.
  2. Locate the memory card slot on the product that is compatible with your memory card. Figure 1: Memory card slot locations c01331721.jpg 1 - CompactFlash (I, II) 2 - Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard (MMC), Secure MultiMedia Card 3 - xD-Picture Card 4 - Memory Stick, Magic Gate Memory Stick, Memory Stick Duo (with user-supplied adapter), Memory Stick Pro 5 - Front universal serial bus (USB) port (PictBridge-enabled)
NOTE: Some portable USB flash drives with a read-only partition, such as U3 smart drives, might be incompatible with the front mass storage port on your product. These partitions are added by the manufacturer and may include utilities and other software. Refer to the manufacturer for additional details about your drive.
  3. If it is not already on, turn the product on by pressing the power button (c01324469.gif ).
  4. Turn the memory card so that the label faces inward and the contacts face the product. Figure 2: Inserting the memory card c01335108.gif CAUTION: Inserting the memory card in any other way might damage the card and the product.
  5. Gently push the memory card into the memory card slot until it stops. The memory card does not insert all the way into the product; do not try to force it.
  6. When the memory card is inserted correctly, the status light next to the memory card slots flashes and then remains solid green. CAUTION: Never attempt to remove a memory card while it is being accessed. Doing so can damage files on the card. You can safely remove a card only when the status light next to the memory card slots is not blinking. Do not pull out a memory card while the light is flashing green.
Step two: Print the photo
  1. Press Photo Menu . A message displays on the control panel with the number of files found on the memory card.
  2. Press the right (c01185072.jpg ) and left (c01185108.jpg ) arrow buttons to browse through the photos on the memory card.
  3. When the photo number you want to print appears, press OK .
  4. After selecting the photos, press Photo Menu again.
  5. Press the right arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Number of Copies , and then press OK .
  6. Press the right arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Layout , and then press OK .
  7. Press the right arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Paper Size , and then press OK .
  8. Press the right arrow button (c01185072.jpg ) to select Paper Type , and then press OK .
  9. Make any other appropriate changes to the settings, and then press Print Photos .

I have hp photosmart 1315 printer but the lead i have got does not attach to the laptop, any suggestions? also when i plug my sony memory card into the side it says card access error so i cant even print...

I assume you mean that the connectors of the cable you are using aren't fitting either into the the laptop. I went to and looked up the printer's specifications. It seems like a USB 1.1 (but not a USB 2.0) cable should work. Here's the reference:

Product Specifications

Since you say the cable doesn't attach to your laptop, make sure the USB connector is correct side up before trying to insert it (I apologize if this seems too obvious, but I've spent plenty of time wondering why a USB cable wouldn't fit into this port or that only to realize that I was holding the connector upside down).

As far as the memory card error, there are a number of different causes, mostly based on the card manufacturer. You say it's a Sony card, so that narrows it down some. I found a web page that addresses general memory card error issues:

Resolving a Card Access Error

I'm going to post links to the several other web pages I found that are related to card access errors, just to make sure you have as much information as I can provide:

Card Access Error when using Lexar CompactFlash

Compact Flash Card Not Recognized by Printer

Card Not Recognized Error Displays on Control Panel

Memory Stick Memory Card Error

Most of these don't have to do with your Sony card, but it couldn't hurt to go over them if the suggestions in the initial link don't work out. Sorry to bombard you with so much information, but you never know what piece of data might hold the key to resolving this issue.

Good luck and post back your results.
