Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Hi, I'm taking you up on your offer of help replacing a microwave door handle. I have a kitchenaid khms155l and even though I remove the three screws on the side of the door, the plastic panel seems impossible to remove. I've cracked several parts of it trying to remove it to get access to the handle screws. Am I doing it the right way? Thanks, James

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screw(s) you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

In some cases, you then have to gently rotate the handle to unlock it.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

Where do I find instructions for replacing the door handles on the built in microwaves?

I do not think you will find directions for this task. Microwaves are not intended to be user serviceable...But, you just need to take the door apart in an orderly fashion, and force nothing.

I need. To replace the handle for a kitchen aid microwave. I have the new part but it came with no instructions. I am afraid to do to break the microwave model# KHMS155L 0. Any one who knows where to...

Here's an exploded view of the door:

Item 10, the door panel, just snaps over the rest of the assembly. If you work slowly and carefully with a flat object like a putty knife, you can separate the door panel and take it off without damage. This will expose the screws (number 8) which hold the handle on. Then you just need to snap the door panel back into replace after you put on the new handle.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!

if the handle is available separately; it's more than likely screwed in from the inside of door. carefully remove the inner door trim with a small putty knife; working it around. screws for handle should be visible.

Need to change handle

The door handle can easily be replaced on most microwave ovens by removing the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. The following link explains how to access and/or replace the door handle:

The average cost for a replacement handle usually averages about $20 - $40. Replacements may be purchased at the websites listed in the link I provided. However, price and configuration of your oven also depends upon the MODEL NUMBER.

If you have any questions, please post back with your complete model number (if different than the one listed) and let me know. I hope this helps you.
