Question about Carrier Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Recently moved into my mothers home (deceased0. Her Carries central air unit is 2-3 years old. worked 2 weeks prior to moving in, but has not worked since. The unit would buzz a th the fan motor, but would not spin. The capacitor was swollen, so I replaced it. The fan now works, but is not cooling. Could the refrigerant be the problem, even though the fan turns on. Thank you!

Is the compressor kicking in on the outside unit? You should be able to hear it kick in it will make a high pitched hum. The easiest way is to have the unit running and pull the disconnect switch that is located next to the outside unit.

The power on my N120E - DeLonghi 12,000 BTU Portable Air turns itself off

The DeLonghi Pinguino Air Conditioner is such a smart choice for people in need of a little extra cooling in their homes! My better half purchased our a couple of years ago when he realized his office was getting much warmer in the Summer than the rest of the house. Being hot natured, he thought a portable air conditioner would be a smart choice. We've loved it! It's on wheels, so you can move it from room to room quite easily (even my 10-year-old has been known to move it.) It's outside vents attach to an adjucstable plate that fits right in any size window in seconds. Just select what temp you want it and... done! Super easy.Right now we're currently using it instead of our central unit while the temps aren't too very high.

My 4 year old Ruud home a/c compressor stopped working. inside fan blows but compressor won't turn on...what can I do prior to calling the gas company who installed the unit...

Ruud parts warranty from factory is 5 years, the capacitor has possible gone out, it will be in the contol compartment on the out side unit and is a dual run capacitor that controls the compressor and fan motor. Recommend if capacitor is bad to replace entire capacitor. As Stated above the parts are under warranty if under five years old. To verify age the date code is in the serial number after the "F" **** week/year of manufacture. Also outside unit has independent power supply so check fuses if any and circuit breaker.

I've just moved into a home with an existing Armstrong Concept 10 A/C unit that's at least 15 years old. When I left for a 2-week vacation, the unit was working great. I set the thermostat to 77 to save...

Hello 93 The compressor caused the breaker to trip.A weak capasitor or burnt wire is a common cause. It sounds like the compressor is NOT on even though the fan is.It may need a new wire or maybe a HARD START kit to help restore operation.Call for help.HS kits are not expensive.NO damage results from leaving it on, the problem would have happened anyway even if you went on vacation or not.The curcit breaker stopped it.Its worth fixing.

Central a/c compressor has failed. Approx. 9 years old.

Info is somewhat incomplete, but here is what I think.
If you just want to replace the compressor, that amount should cover it or at least be real close. But, if the unit is, say, over 10-12 years old, you may want to replace the entire unit. The issue then becomes very expensive. The new laws now make it a requirement for manufacturers to produce nothing under a 13 SEER rating. This has really driven up the cost. Plus, you may have to replace the indoor coil to match the new outdoor unit in almost every case. Then you have to look at the air handle to see if you have enough blower to move the correct amount of air over the new coil. If not, then a new furnace and blower is required.
I know this sounds like way too much information but, you asked and I feel you need the complete picture. I'd get it checked by a tech and ask for 2 senerios, repair exsisting, or replace and upgrade system.
Good Luck and hope this helps.
And congrats on your new home. Hope you enjoy it.

Weather king central air conditioner

You have done a good job under the circumstances. It could be a bad start/run capacitor as well. It carries a lot of amperage so I suggest hiring a technician to check the capacitor and the motor.

Where is my a/c filter?

If your rooftop unit is self contained with no pipes leaving it except the condensate drain line there should be a narrow removable panel to access where the filters are located. If you have three pipes exiting the roof top unit two will go to an air handler located in the attic of the home. The filters will be located in the air handler.
