Bad timing, or maybe too loud of a car stereo for the alternator to support.

yes you have a internal fault of the amp. the circuit that puts it into safe mode is bad and that is a very small chip on the board know as a op amp. needs to be repaired.

Speaker Fried, is my Amp toast too?

You are sending TOO much power to the speakers, Replace the speakers and then get a much smaller amp that is within the ratings of the speakers. ACTUALLY you should get an amp that is aboout 1/2 the total rating of the speakers.

You should ALSO procure a sound meter to verify the sound level is within safe limits. If you insist upon abusing your ears with too high a sound pressure, be ready to buy hearing aids at a VERY young age.

You also need to know that the enclosure of the speaker plays a part in keeping the speaker from tearing itself to pieces.

MANY of the auto sound system installers are hacks that don't do it right and you see what happens to your expensive equipment!

Using even a Radio Shack sound meter properly will protect your preciuos hearing for later life.

I have a jl 1000/1 mono amp and my low ohm light was on and making a buzzing sound and found that there was a resistor that one of the terminals broke off and now no matter where i look i cant find the...

The 5 ohm could be challenging, what you could try is to get 2 10ohm 3 watt and put them in parallel. Will be 5 ohm and 10ohm is easy to get

Hope that helps

How do i know if my amp is blown

Hey Yoo,

Go to Radio shack and get you an adapter that will take an earphone jack and convert it to RCA male.  You use this to simulate the signal coming from the reciever.  Hook up to a Cd player or Walkman, anything with an earphone output jack. Test that the device actually puts out music or anything worth listening to.  Connect the device to the input of your amp, with the car running, and the reciever turned on.. This will tell yo if the signal is getting from the reciever to the amp. You may not be getting signal from the head unit.

If you still get no sound to the woofers, dsisconnect the woofers and try a different speaker.  If that speaker dont work,  Change setting and switches., and if you still get no sound, then your amp is toast.

Try to take out the lights that you put in yourself, but do it carefully, as you might have bridged out the power connectors that go through to your subs.
