Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router

Open Question

I am setting up a Canon MP560 wireless printer. It's instructions tell me to "press and hold the WPS button on the access point (for about 5 seconds) ...." I assume "access point" is the router but I can't find a button on the router labeled WPS. Which button is it?

SOURCE: Router Configuration in "Wireless Client" Mode

Hi, If I understand you right, what you want to do is to make the DI-524 as a repeater, i.e. receive from the "external wireless access point" and re-broadcast to your "small home wireless LAN". Unfortunately, no. D-Link made it a point not to enable repeater mode in the DI-524 model (firmware has no support for wireless distribution service). Other than your old DWL-900AP+, one other model they have that can do this is the DWL-G710 but only in WiFi and not in the Ethernet port. On some other brands of similar feature models, the original manufacturer's firmware may be replaced with an open source firmware with more features enabled. An example is the LinkSys' WRT54G and the replacement firmwares by Sveasoft and another named DD-WRT. Hope this be of some information to you. Post back should you require additional information. Good luck and kind regards.

SOURCE: Linksys N router drops signal

Its not dropping you because of the spectrums, it works on line of sight. If you are in a basement and your router is upstairs it has to go thru a floor and the strength is weakened. Go into your router and increase the signal strength. But you have to mod your firmware.

Here is a link to update your firmware.

SOURCE: I want to reset my

Your router should be set to its factory defaults by either pressing and holding the reset button (at the right of the LAN ports) for 5 seconds, or firing up its browser-based utility (defaults: http://192.168.1.1, username left empty, and 'admin' as password) and going to 'Administration > Factory Defaults'.
By the way, if your router's user guide happens to be missing, feel free to download it from this location.
Please, let me know if I can help you any further.
Regards, Carlos

SOURCE: Does the linksys-G support WPS or AOSS?

Good question, I have the same router & Brother HL-2280DW and ran the printer setup CD from Windows XP SP3 via temporary USB connection & it seemed to work. The WAN report on the printer itself says OK, however the computer can't seem to find the printer "No devices could be found on the network." I let setup make changes to Windows Firewall, not sure about Microsoft Security Essentials however. This seems like a nice printer/copier at a nice price but this setup is frustrating! PS If it's a security issue I'd like to say thanks to all the hackers for ruining technology for everyone, your junk is responsible for slowing down & complicating computers & technology in the world. Someone please do everyone a favor & start making antibodies that *kill* viruses & spyware & spam and clean & speed things up for a change! All these villians - Where are the cyber super heroes????

Not all routers have such a button.
Follow the instructions that came with the printer to "manually" select your wireless network, and to enter the password for your network.

What is a WPS button and where is it on canon pixma

The WPS button would not be on the Canon Pixma printer. It will be on the router (or wireless access point) if your router can search for devices to be connected to the wifi network. (Not all routers do this.) If you add a comment with the make/model of your router, I may be able to tell you where the WPS button is. (Usually it will be on the back of the router but the exact location will vary depending on the model.)

It's much easier to use the standard setup to connect the printer to the router. When you choose that option, you will see a list of identified networks (if they are set up to broadcast). Then you select the network and enter the network password. (This should be set up when you set up the wireless network. Note: a default password is set on most routers; this should be changed during the initial set up. I prefer to use a wired network connection to enable the wireless network and set the password.)

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with more information about your network for additional support.
