Gas will not ignite, just cold air circulates

because it is gas and i dont know if u have a licence to work on one
i advice you to call a qualified licenced repair person
how ever if u can see the glow coil it should be white hot not yellow
hard to look at
in order to work
if there is no glow coil then the highlimit may have over heated and preventing the dryer from working till it gets fixed
or glow coil is defective
if this s fine now u are looking for a defective safety gasvalve or flame sencer
of course broken wires or a defective motor switch will stop ignition too
the timer and temp selector switch and all thermostates need to be checked as well
i suggest a qualified licenced repair person your life/ wife and children are too important to play with do it right feel safe be safe
(solv ya prob)

The drive feels hot and there is no led light

Enitrely possible that this HDD has been fried or has just simply stopped reading even if the motor spins the discs the heads may not be working and the return magnet for the arm may be working on the disc causing friction.

One tip is to but the drive in the Freezer in a zip lock bag over night and try again in the morning if this doesn't work then nothing will.

MYTH or BUSTED
"While this method won't magically fix whatever is wrong with your computer, it can get your hard drive working long enough for you to recover important data before it gives up the ghost for good. This generally works best when the drive is making a tell-tale clicking sound caused by overheated metal parts that have expanded. Freezing the hard drive cools and shrinks the metal so the drive will mount properly and run long enough (hopefully) for you to copy your files to another source."

If you have data on this drive then it will cost £100's of pounds to get the data off.

Sorry for the bad news but this has happen to me in the past there is no substitute for backing up to optical media all those files that you can't afford to loose.

Dog knocked over drive while on, now it does not work.

Ugh! I feel horrible for you. I had this happen to me recently, but, it wasn't my dog, it was my wife!

First, there is not much you can do to fix or recover the data if the hard drive has failed due to an impact. But, there are a few things to observe to validate that the hard drive has failed.
First, when you plug it in, does it spin up? You may be able to tell by listening to it purr. Secondly, you can pick it up while its running, hold it in the palm of your hand and slowly rotate your hand. If the disc is spinning, you will feel the centripetal resistance to motion. If you don't hear or feel the disc spinning, likely the motor is broken.
One thing to caution you on, the more you leave the drive on, the chances of retrieving your data go down.
Depending on the age of your device, the unit may still be under warranty. So, don't open it up to access the drive, this will void any warranties. Toshiba has an easy to use online service program where you can obtain support to replace the unit or retrieve data. While under warranty, the unit will be replaced at no charge to you. But, don't tell them about the dogs! Just claim ignorance, "I turned it on and it didn't work."
The data retrieval program Toshiba uses is through a 3rd party service that may offer a flat rate or discounted service. The price will ****, data retrieval, based on the size of your drive, can range anywhere from $1000 to $1500 (it sucks, I know). They prey on the hope that your data is precious and unrecoverable. So, that's what your in for, best of luck.

I just purchased a 320 gig hard drive and when i set a partition it only shows 132 gig

Use the WD data life guard disc to partition the drive. Put the disc in, reboot the computer, and run data life guard. A screen comes up and asks if your system can recognize a partition greater than 137 gb. If your system can read larger than 137, then use the option to format one large partition.

Some OS cannot read larger than 137gb. Also some Bios have the same problem.

Is it safe to keep data cable connected without power cable

It is perfectly safe to remove the power cable from a hard drive but leave the data cable connected. Make sure that whenever you want to connect or disconnect the power cable, your computer has been shut down first. You could do it with the computer powered on as well, but this would not be good practice and you may put errors on your drive.

DVD Disc Drive

So farit seems that the laser lense or the laser coil is bad. I found my lense chipped. One site indicated this is because of the use of "bad" DISCs that cause the laser diode to overload because of repeated attempts to read the bad disk. The coil and/or diod get hot and burn. I don't know how my lense got chipped!?
