Can't Burn

I have a Gateway ML6703 notebook a little over a year old. Vista Premium 32bit. It came with a Multi-format double layer DVD RW drive. Yesterday was the first time after purchasing it that I tried to burn photos from Photo Gallery or Media Player. Gallery tells me "you don't have a disk drive capableof burning files to CD or DVD" Player tells me "DVD Burner Not Found"
HELP!
