Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

I have a Honeywell oscillating quiet cooling tower fan that was bought two years ago. Loved it, till yesterday it just stopped working. the oscillating feature still moves, but the fan does nothing. the buttons still beep and turn on and change while plugged in, and it sounds like something is working...but obviously not everything cause the fan doesn't fan. Is it fixable? Should I send it to the manufacturer? Or just eat the cost and buy a new fan?

Could be fixable but until someone determines the problem there is no way of knowing if it is fixable. Could be a broken wire between the selector switch and the motor or the motor itself could be bad.
When you are trying to operate it does the fan motor get warm or hot? Does the fan turn freely?

Probably if you a little mechanically minded. Unplug fan and disassemble motor section and find the motor operated ecentric and find/ replace the screw/bolt of the oscillating arm.
Hope this helps

STOP! Before you take anything apart, turn fan upside down and find the large plastic "screw"(cord passes through it)that secures the fan to the pedestal. Is same color as unit. Loosen it and see if squeaking stops. Worked for me!

Mine was driving me nuts and I was prepared to return it to store.

The cord has a fuse at the plug. Check the fuse it could be blown. To access the fuse there is a slide open door that is about 1" x 1/4" on either top or bottom of the actual plug.

Squeak in aloha breeze tower fan model 05538

If the model is equipped with a fan, and the noise occurs even when not oscillating it must be a fan/blower motor. If it is a squeak. A squeal could be an electical component going bad which is always bad. I would definitely take some bottom drawer tools , ie. screwdrivers and WD-40 and oil that squeaking motor. Being a fan it goes through alot of air pollutants. That tends to build up on the shaft and can work its way into the bearing seal. Good luck.

remove the switch and test it with a meter on ohms or remove the switch and disconnect the fan wires and connect the fan wires to an extention cord to test.
