Pull the plug to shut off power to unit or shut off breaker. This condition indicate a bad short circuit.

Smoke came from under fridge

When you let the smoke out of the wires, they don't work as well afterward! Sounds like a short and what was burning was wire insulation. The main components are the compressor and the fans.
Look for misshapen wires as that will be the best indicator of what has overheated.

Smoke coming from Refrigerator

Start components or wiring could be getting old and brittle. Take the back cover off. Its usually a cardboard cover with metal screws and inspect/repair the wiring.

Inside fans blowing smoke (burning plastic smell)

Smoke and smell of plastic indicates that there is a short circuit inside. It is the protective covering on the electric wires. Unplug the refrigerator from the wall and call the repair person.

The module on the side of the compressor is smoking

You need a new relay. You can purchase an entire kit which would be your best and easiest replacement. It is part number URCO410. The instructions will come in the kit. Its fairly inexpensive and will get you up and running for a few more years unless your compressor was damaged. Just read the instructions carefully and make sure your wiring is right because if you wire it wrong you will burn up your compressor windings.

Hope this helps _MJ_

Smoke at compressor

Your start relay is mostlikey burning up.
Unplug the machine.

Remove the back panel.

There is usualy a black box with wires going to the compressor. take the black box off . it might not have a box and has a wire holding a device on it with a wire. This is the start device. Remove it carfully and inspect it. Yours might be burned up.

A new one might or might not repair your problem.
You might need a new compessor, But is worth trying a new start device.

On all post please provide : Model number and make of machine. and all information about the problem.

Help up Help you :)

We had smoke coming out of the bottom of the refrigerator and it smelled like burning wires.

Remove the back panel and see if the condenser fan motor is working
it may be just to replace it.
is the only thing than can make smoke unless you have a short circuit, but that is less likely.
