Question about Kenmore 24 in. 15252 / 15254 / 15259 Built-in Dishwasher

Kenmore dishwasher makes grinding noise while draining

Model 665.15789300 with food disposal

I think something may have fallen into the food disposal as the sound is similar to a spoon in the sink garbage disposal and the drain pump seems to still work (the water gets pumped out).

How do I check the disposal for foreign objects? Thanks in advance
Ray

Why won't dishwasher drain ?

Good Morning Friend, thank you for your post!

I see that your Frigidaire dishwasher is not draining properly; this can be caused by many reasons. First, I would suggest checking the drain hose to ensure it has not become twisted or kinked. Even if the hose is not kinked make sure it has not fallen behind your dishwasher either as this can prevent draining. Additionally, you could check the filter at the bottom of the tub to make sure no debris has clogged the filter or disposal. Other than that the drain pump could be the culprit. If so, I would recommend a local authorized technician to come out and properly diagnose your dishwasher. I hope this information helps -Z

Water wont drain

If the water in your dishwasher does not spray or drain properly, there are a number of things you can do. Start by giving your dishwasher a thorough cleaning and see if that helps. See How to clean a dishwasher for step-by-step instructions.

Next, consult the owner's manual for simple instructions on how to access and clean your dishwasher's filter.

Look where the dishwasher drain hose snakes through from one cabinet to the other. Does the hose look flattened or kinked? Do you see any sharp bends? If so, straighten out the hose with your hands and manipulate it so that it regains its rounded shape.

If your dishwasher drains through the garbage disposal, try running the garbage disposal for a bit to process and clear any food.

Does your dishwasher spray your dishes, but it does not advance to the next stage and drain the dirty water? The timer controls the start of the draining process. You may need an entirely new timer or a new motor for the timer. Repair service is recommended.

If you hear a humming or grinding noise, that's an indication that bits of glass, broken dish pieces, beans or seeds may be caught in the pump impeller.

For more troubleshooting steps and solutions, see Dishwasher not draining. I hope this helps!

After completing the wash & rinse cycle the dishwasher won't drain

In my experience, in this case it is likely that your dishwasher is not draining at any time throughout the wash or rinse cycles. The overflow float is preventing your machine from overflowing.

Here are a few things to check:
  1. If this is a new install, or the disposal has just been replaced, make sure the plug in the disposal has been removed. The nipple where the drain line from your dishwasher attaches has a plug on the inner wall of the grind chamber from the factory.
  2. Listen to the sound of the drain motor by starting a cycle and then canceling after a few seconds. Make sure the drain pump is actually running and not just making a loud humming noise as if it is seized, or something is binding it.
  3. Finally, check your drain line from your dishwasher to your disposal (most common drain connection), or where ever your drain line connects. Slight kinks and sharp bends have a tendancy to collect debris and create a plug-up. If this is the case, simply take the drain line loose from the drain pump and from the disposal and take it an outside water faucet. Place the disposal end against the faucet and slowly turn on the water. It will usually blow the plug right out.

Grinding noise when first starts running after filling with water

Do you know if your dishwasher has a built in disposal to grind up food particles that end up in the water? Could be a problem with that, or maybe with the pump.
Is water being moved about with the arms spinning.
I would call an appliance repair shop with your model # to find out what they think.

The last couple of months, taller glasses are not getting clean, have a food-like residue. No problems with other types of dishes. Tested water temperature, seems ok.

if your drain is connected to a disposal make sure the drain hose has an air break, the hose should be raised higher than the disposal drain connection, if not it will syphon food from disposal back into dishwasher, also if you have never ran cleaner through dishwasher that also may be your problem, the best thing that I have found to use is muratic acid, just a cap full with the unit empty

Dishwasher makes noise during drain cycle

This really isn't a solution, but I found info on Whirlpool's site that the noise could be caused by the disposer and food or something in it. They said to use it a few cycles and see if the noise goes away, so that's what I'm doing. I always rinse dishes before going into the dishwasher, so don't really think there could be food particles etc. causing the problem, but we'll see. Not anxious to pay for a possible solution unless through a repair person. Thanks for your reply.

Mine eventually "fixed itself". I think some debris got caught and eventually (5 cycles or so) got ground up and sent through the drain. The noise changed each time it got closer "flushing out"
