Question about Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

My Phillips CDR 785 seems to work fine (even the record side) but it will just randomly shut off, on its own, after some period of time. (usually 2-3 minutes) I am thinking power supply, but do not know if I can replace it myself, or where to buy the power supply if I can.

Hi,
It sounds like you haven't followed the last step to the burning procedure. All you need to do once you've completed burning your disc is to Finalize the disc. Read below why you need to finalize as well as the steps to follow in order to finalize the disc.
Hope this helps ;)
How to Finalize Finalizing is writing the TOC (table of contents) on a disc so a CD player can recognize the number of tracks, the total time for each track, and their location on the disc. A recorded disc must be finalized to playback on a standard CD player. Once finalized a CD-R disc can be played on CD players that support CD-R playback. CD-RW discs can only be played on CD players that support CD-RW playback. Consult your CD player owner's manual to confirm supported formats. Finalizing is necessary to: • be able to play a recorded CD-R or CD-RW disc on a CD player • prevent further recording on a disc • avoid erasing tracks on a CD-RW disc • record text information onto a disc you record Notes: • A finalized CD-R disc can never be recorded onto again. • A finalized CD-RW disc can be unfinalized for more recording. • The CDR300 can play back unfinalized CD-R or CD-RW discs. • SYNC REC+FINAL mode automatically finalizes.
Here are the steps in order to Finalize your disk
1 Push Stop. The display shows the number of tracks and their total playing time. 2 Push FINALIZE. FINALIZE is displayed for about 3 seconds.

For many years I bought the CD-R Audio. Special optimized for my Philips recorder (record/rewriteable). Now suddenly my shop tells me that these disks are not langer available. I'm desperate! Please...

Your shop is FOS. What's so special about them regarding YOUR recorder? CDR-A's that conform to the Philips standard are very common.

Web search "cdr audio". I buy mine in bulk on eBay.

Hi,i have connected phono cables from mixer to anolog in on marantz dr4050 and from anolog out on marantz dr4050 to input on amp, there is no sound unless you turn levels to max and then it is very quiet...

So you're saying an unnamed mixer is feeding a potential analog signal to a CDR. You're monitoring the CDR output at an unnamed amp.

You haven't established that there is any signal to BE heard.

WHAT is the actual source sound device (BEFORE the mixer)? Is the source input visible on the CDR when it's in Record Mode?
Have you perused the manuals?

NEVER USE EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH VOLUME SETTINGS FOR TROUBLESHOOTING. If a signal is inaudible at half volume it's effectively not there. YOU WILL BLOW SOMETHING UP WHEN YOU FIND THE MISPLACED CONTROL AND FLIP IT.

I need to record some music on a CD and I was wondering what kind of CD I need to get to record music on. Will a CD-R work for this?

If you're using a consumer home CD-R recorder it will require you to use CDR-Music or CDR-Audio blank media. A PC will use any recordable CD.

Harman Kardon AVR 325 randomly switching inputs

Step one would be to ascertain exactly what the failure mode is - which input(s) aggravate it, what kind of connection, etc. Narrow the scope a bit.

The clicking and fickering sound like it's struggling with an intermittent source connection. When it starts flickering see if you can change the problem by wiggling the cables one at a time.

Do any of your video sources have multiple attachment types connected at the same time, say, hdmi and component, but to different assigned inputs?

We have a Denon AVR 1905/785 We cannot turn the volume down.... it is at -70 and full blast... the volume turns up and gets even louder.... but can't turn the surround sound down... help

if the volume control as been forced the conection in the switch as jammed +vol .this is usually a small preset under the knob the right hand one.pull the knob off pulling straight as not to bend spindle some time's the two presets are visable.a cotton bud dipped in spirits could solve your problem but some times you need to pull the top of the preset .it might need removing and replacing . this could be a more complicated problem caused by a variety of things here are a few,dry joints, cracked pannel .hope some of this helped . if in dire straits skype me farr64
