Too bad.

Antivirus softwares have on-access-scanner mechanisms in order to check a file when somebody or somesoftware tried to access them via system level drivers.

If you installed 2 different antivirus softwares at the same time, one of them tried to check any file an access event occures and the other one tries to check same file against viruses and fires another file access event and then the other av softwaretries again and so forth, this may cause lack of system resources and your system may be locked.

You should choose one of AV software and use only it, and uninstall the existing if you want to install another AV.

Now, you should open the computer with an external boot (with erd commander like live OS cd ) technique end delete the folder of one of the AV software to gain your PC back.

Sounds like you have a virus. boot into safemode with networking and download malwarebytes run that in safe mode. then restart into normal windows and run malware again. then i suggest downloading AVG its free and antivirus great program. also if you are using mcaffee dont use it. It slows your PC down way to much

If you have a virus resident on your computer that is interfering with your ability to get on-line, then your only choice is to obtain anti-virus software either from a store or downloaded off another computer and placed on a CD or USB drive. Whatever brand you choose, be sure to visit the maker's website (e.g. Symantec, McAfee, AVG, etc.) and download the latest updates--you may need them on your computer. Install the anti-virus software on your computer, apply any updates you obtained, and then run the program to scan your entire system. It should be able to remove the virus.

Anti virus

Hi,

You of course can run multiple instances of anti-virus programs in your computer assuming that the anti-virus will allow competition in the resources. However. more often, this would only eat on your memory and processor so it is not advisable and there is no significant gain if using 2 or more anti virus bot several downside.

How to check what anti-virus is running, there are several ways:
1. Go Start, All Programs and check what anti virus has been installed;
2. Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Program, the programs installed would be listed including your anti-virus;
3. Go to Start, Run, type "msconfig". next window go to Startup tab, it will show what programs are running upon Windows start up including your anti-virus.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HELP!!! Computer stopped working when anit-virus was installed?????

Assuming you are using windows xp. 1. Boot up into windows safe mode by pressing the "F8" key during boot process. 2. Choose "Safe Mode without networking" on the menu and after entering your desktop a pop-up will appear telling you that you are using windows safe mode, just press "OK" then uninstall Norton Anti-Virus. 3. Shut-down and/or reboot computer. Another alternative would be to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore. If you choose to do this, you still need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus because a system restore will only fix just system files not programs that were installed. In other words, you will have a partial installation of Norton Anti-Virus in your computer. As to why this happened, could be a compatability issue with the use of Norton and some other program. Good luck.
