Disable Notification Balloons in XP

If you are annoyed with Windows popping up a balloon notification telling you things you already know every time you turn on your machine, here is a quick tip on completely disabling them. (Note this requires a registry modification so be sure to back up your registry before making any changes.)

You should note that this will disable all balloon notifications, so proceed with caution.

Click on Start \ Run and type in regedit

Now we will navigate to this path in your registry.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced

On the right pane right click on an open area and choose New \ DWORD Value

You will see New Value #1. Change this to EnableBalloonTips.

Next double click the new registry entry you created. In the Value Data field set it to 0 (zero). Make sure Hexadecimal is selected under Base. Click OK.

Finally restart your system and enjoy the clean boot up with no balloons popping up at you.

To remove this registry hack, just delete the registry key that you created.

The input signal out of range on screen persists in spite of all monitor and PC video settings being correct.

Have you tried uninstalling the graphics driver entirely and then rebooting? Could be a corrupted driver.

HDMI from laptop to Mitsubishi TV worked once and stopped

Sounds like you set HDMI as your primary display device. Try reconnecting to HDMI and use the Mitsubish to make your changes while the laptop is connected. You will need to click the LCD Icon when it shows you the 2 monitors then turn off the HDMI device in that menu. Then select the VGA screen as your primary display device. This can be done with either the displays manager or the optional software supplied with your laptops display. remember to always switch back to your primary video device (LCD) before switching off your PC or laptop since the display resolutions on Hi-Def are completely different than a VGA device as well as the display frequency.
Windows, as well as Bios will prevent your PC from displaying resolutions and frequencies that may damage your Video card.

I have a hanspreee HF289H monitor It has recently started to display its menu on the screen every few seconds. the controles on the side are of no help.

This happens sometimes when your resolution is not optimal for the monitor. Try changing your desktop resolution to match the optimal supported resolution of your monitor, they may also be a way to disable notification of resolution discrepancies withing your monitor's setup menu.

You may also wish to unplug the monitor from the power source, and let it sit power free for a couple of minutes then plug it back in. If this does not solve your problem, you may need to contact your manufacturer for further diagnosis / repair of the device
