Hello RCSOrtho,

You can get the latest updates for your Garmin 660 HERE.
You will have to enter your unit number and the website will search for any available updates. However, if want a map that was not preloaded into your device, then you will have to pay for it. See HERE.
You can download and use GoogleMaps as well, and they are free. But if you want to use something like Route66, then they must be paid for..
Hope that helps! Should you have any further questions, please feel free to post them here.

P.S. - If you find that the solution/answer I provided led you to, or resulted in a fix, please close the ticket with a FixYa! rating. I would be very grateful for your show of appreciation.
If it hasn’t, please do not assign a rating just yet. Please post back as to what steps you took, results, etc, and I will try to assist you further as best I can. I am here at your service.

Thank you for using FIXYA!

Cheers!

Want to update maps on my 660 garmin with my numaps Lifetime

You can get details of how to update your maps at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps
When you're updating you get the option to select onetime or lifetime updates. Note that lifetime refers to the lifetime of your satnav not your life. Also you should note that the average expected lifetime of a garmin satnav is 5 years so if yours is near that you should consider if it's worth the extra cost.

I bought a refurbished Garmin 660 and the screen comes up to needing a map update and won't go any further. I am charging but have no idea how long that will take. Tried to downlaod a map update using a...

The unit should still operate even though the map is old. If you press the OK button and nothing happens, most likely the touchscreen is bad and needs to be replaced. An old map should not stop you from using the device.

Can u tell me how to download free up dated maps for my garmin nuvi 660 thanks vicki

Hi Vicki, unless your nuvi was first activated and acquired satellite lock in the last 60 days (unlikely as yours was discontinued a long while ago) then you cannot get free map updates, sorry.

For models activated within the last 60 days Garmin offer a free update to the latest maps if the maps already on the product when it was purchased are an older version. After that, all updats must be paid for.

You simply won't find free map updates legally. Accurate maps cost a fortune to produce and update so nobody gives them away, even the few illegal downloads tend not to work and if they do work are likely to be out of date anyway.

The way that Garmin price their map updates, it's often better to simply buy a new Garmin with the maps pre-installed, although I appreciate that's not the answer you hoped for. If you do buy Garmin updates then you can either go for a one-off update, or for additional cost can buy a lifetime update, but it's limited to the lifetime of the device which is only designed to last three years anyway so may be poor value if you buy the lifetime update and your machine then dies of wear or old age.

Sorry, no free maps. I know I've tried. You either live with the old map or buy the latest version.
I bought the life time maps updates and I'm glad I did.
I've updated my maps at least 6 times.
New maps are about $70.
Life time maps are about $99 (when I bought mine)
BUT FIRST make SURE you have the latest software in YOUR computer and in YOUR Garmin before you load any maps.
You can get that FREE at Garmin here:

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 To download the latest unit software visit Garmin website: www.garmin.com/webupdater
After installing WebUpdater once from the Garmin website, perform all future software updates from your computer. Simply connect your compatible Garmin device to your computer, then run WebUpdater from your computer's "Start Menu" by selecting "Start", "Programs", "Garmin", and finally "WebUpdater"
REMEMBER: It takes hours to do a complete a map update.
Unless you bought the Lifetime maps you may have to pay for current maps.

Does this help? Let us know. Thanks.

How do you download updated maps to he garmin nuvi

You can purchase map updates from stores that sell the units, or new this year you can buy updates for the life of your unit from the Garmin website which cost $120. You can get up to 4 updates per year. If you wish you can just purchase a single update for $70.

http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/us/maps/numaps-lifetime

Also download the Garmin Webupdater software from the site which allows you to connect the Nuvi to your computer and will give you free software updates for the unit itself.
