To make coffee stronger do i set the grinder higher or lower

Should set lower it will grind little finer and let espress under pressure absorb more ofbthe flavor, the corrsor it s the faster water flows through grounds, and less flavor.

Adjust grinder to finer, if there are numbers on the adjustment knob, it is still possible to go past 0.

How do I adjust the grinder to make the coffee grind finer? ie. the coffee is pouring way too fast and giving no crema.

Depending on the model and make on the grinder you just have to turn the adjustment collar clockwise for finer, that is the case with most grinders.

Hi,

Personnaly, when I use the big filter, the grinds are dry after the extraction, but for the small filter, it's all soggy. If you look at the documentation, ( http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/breville/breville_coffeemaker_product_list.html) they say wet coffee grind after extraction is normal.
But did you change the coffee brand ? Or the grinding level ? How do you grind your coffee ? I had big troubbles once with a commercial grinder at my grocery store, it's when I decided to buy my own Breville grinder.

Good luck,

JF

The coffee comes out in little logs or clumps. The coffee is weak- no crema.

HI
There are 2 things that can cause this. Either the burrs are bad and need replacing or you grinder is out of adjustment and you need to turn to a finer grind. If you have taken it apart, you are not adjusted close enough so your burrs can't grind fine enough. Readjust the burrs closer together.

In which direction do you turn the barrel to make finer coffee?

HI
Clockwise is the direction for making the grind finer, but make sure that the machine is running at the time you turn the hopper. If its not running, you trap beans under the burrs and jam the motor, which could do damage. There are numbers on the bottom of the hopper, but they are just a reference to go by.

Why is the grind from my Breville BCG450XL in the finest position coming out like a drip grind with a fair amount of dust mixed in? I have an old Solis with exactly the same conical burrs which is grinding...

The Breville was designed to be used with Pressurized Portafilters, which most Home Espresso Machines have. These filters use a courser grind, so when it says Espresso on the Breville, it's really closer to Drip. The Turkish setting is barely fine enough for Espresso. There is a limiter on the Breville that prevents the user from going any finer, if you crack it open and remove the limiter, you can go as fine as the Solis. Becareful though, the burs can come so close to each other that they can chip and break.

Grinder setting for the Rocky SD In setting the spacing of the grinders:where are the "grinders" located? (I am assuming that they are under the plastic cover at the bottom of the bean container-right?)....

Your assumption is correct.
But you do not have to (and you can not) see the grinder wheels to adjust the grinder. The numbers on the bean container indicate the level. All you have to do is to push down the release lever (on the right side) and then turn the container -- towards right for finer grindings (lower number) or to left for coarser coffee. Around 12 is usually suitable for espresso machines.
